What i have seen underneath the mudholes continues to amaze me. This past Sunday I went through a beaver pond/mudhole and dented my front bumper badly! Turns out that my front bumper went nose down into the mudhole and smacked a transfer case that just happen to be uner the water. A freakin T-case! Needless to say my front bumper needs to be replaced now. looks like I'll never have enough money to buy hose 4.10's.

I've seen logs, tires, wheels, pallets, bumpers, and other misc parts, but never a t-case! That is definately a first for me.

Look into aftermarket front bumpers. Shoul dbe cheaper than a stock replacement, and much stronger as well.

Hey Outlaw Ram, just don't tell them that you need your replacement front bumper to protect against T-Cases. They might look at you crazy and think you need to be committed!

WOOOOOHOOOOO! Got the bumper fixed! I used a hydraulic press to push out the dent, all that is left is a small ding and the license plate holder covers it up. A small crisis has been solved.

Now here's the important question... What did you do with the T-Case? Did you try to free it from its watery grave or just leave it there for someone else to hit?

If you removed it what kinda case was it? (read: who do we have to blame?)

Later all,

Well we hooked a strap to the T-case and pulled it out with my truck (cause we were too lazy to lug it out ourselves). One of the guys put it in the back of his truck (a chevy) to see if he could salvage anything from it. I don't know much about chevy transmissions but I think it was a 4L60E. I can't believe a Chevy inflicted a scar on my Dodge

Being a former Chevy guy, the 4L60E is a tranny not the T-case. However if it was in the mud pit (assuming it was left there unintentionally by a truck) it was probably a 4L80E (the more heavy duty version commonly found in trucks). My '96 Z-28 had a 4L60E in it, but with all the horsepower I was pushing I blew it up twice so I converted to a 6 speed manual.

I couldn't imagine there would be anything salvagable left in the tranny or t-case, whatever it was, because of it sitting in the mud for who knows how long.

hey 79-W150...
glad to see you made it to AZ...
anyway... you commented "horsepower I was pushing I blew it up twice so I converted to a 6 speed manual"

is that a nice tranny?
I have a SMC465 ( YES GUYS THIS IS A CHEVY )
and was thinkin of going to a 5 speed or even a 6 if I could find one... but the SMC is a nice tranny... also If I go with a divorced transfer case I need a 2wd tranny so I could use a camaro/vette 6 speed... anyone know if this is worth it?
I could have post that in the chevy section but the cobwebs were too hard to get through...

and another thing... when my truck gets on the road... some year... it will never go into streams cuz if you wash the dirt away it will fall apart... I say buy Chevy first, Dudge second (spelled it that way on purpose), Ford if you have too and NO FOREIGN !!!!!. Keep our workers in business and the parts store full !!!!!
my $.02
