UPDATE!-check it out-crank but no start

752 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  FoxRacn250
well on my 99 ctd ive been having hard starts during the last week. engine warm and not. when i first put my injectors(cheap-ass bullydog) sometimes it would take longer to start, but now 10seconds of cranking or more and it wont catch. now my question, could this be a tps sensor? its been running great when it does. i know im probably looking at a vp44, but ive only heard of it going out while driving down the road. ALSO, i checked it with my tuner and there are no codes showing.

im gonna go uninstall my superchip, and ill keep yall updated

UPDATE!!!!!

well we got the dodge running today. all we did was spray a little bit of ether in it and it kicked right off. it runs just as good as it always did. whats going on? what wouldnt throw a code but cause reaaaly hard starts?
ETHER  You could blow up you and your truck. There is a heater grid in the intake that gets glowing red hot to heat the air coming in :nono:. It sounds like a VP-44 going bad hard or no starts when warm is a sing. Get it scaned for codes, and lay off the ether
hell all kinds of ppl use ether for hard starts in the colder states or on most pulling trucks that has more compression ,,not like he dumped a can in there

Most trucks are ok but not his. When it say wait to start on the dash its heating the intake heater red hot. And pulling trucks that have cummins took out the grid to get more air flow. It even say on the intake filter cover not to use ether. just giving the guy a heads up so ever time his truck wont start he gets out the ether and have flames shooting out of his intake. I use ether all the time at work to get our Cat equip to start but they dont have intake grid heaters. Just giving a heads up.
does your IP run when you turn the key to on? i was having the same problems, but my was much worse than yours. my TPS went out and my ECM. it wouldnt throw codes at some places but i finally took it somewhere and they had a different computer that said the TPS was bad. replaced it, and started missing bad, and died. ended up being my ECM as well. it made it really really hard to start. im not saying that is what is causing it, but you might have it checked out maybe.
