i got a couple questions about my trans i couldnt really find the answers i was looking for. i have a 95 2500. when my truck is warm and i drive at least a mile my truck will shift nice and crisp. when i first put it in gear after say sitting overnight the truck will go good in 1st get to 2nd then it will want to stay there for a whiel till the trans warms up then it shifts good. if i let off the gas then get back on the gas the rpms will go up real quick like its in nuetral or park. is this the torque converter not locking up? how can i verify its the tc? it has a fresh filter and fluid. also what does adjusting the bands do? all help is apreciated guys

the t/c should only lock up in o/d. sounds to me like the governor pressure sensor, or governor pressure solenoid is bad. maybe a fluid and filter change also. but, my suggestion is to take it in, and they will do a line pressure test and a voltage check on those two parts and tell you what is wrong. go in with kind of a suggestion to those parts as though you may know what you are talking about.
That should be a 46RH...which should have very little electronic control...might be as simple as the valve body needing cleaned...a tranny shop should be able to diagnose it since it is a reoccuring problem (not a "cannot duplicate" scenario).

Also, if the tranny has been rebuilt before, it could have a shift kit in it that holds gears longer...and when they are cold they will seem to hold forever because the fluid is "thicker".

if he turn the o/d off won't it lock up in d (3rd)?
just wondering

You are correct...it will lock in both "manual" select drive (if the selector is in drive or OD is turned off) and OD.
