How hard it is to tan a deer skin? I'm wanting to do that when I get a doe and make it to where I can hang it on my wall or something. Also, does anybody how much a taxidermist would charge to do something like that?

i believe you just rub salt into the hide until it draws all the moisture out, at least that's what my grandfather did.

You do the salt thing to dry it out.. then to actaully tan it you get it really moist.. then mix alumium alum with borax and water.. and let it soar for a few days and then dry it and use niche oil on it. I forgot the right order put google "deer hide, aluminum alum" and you should get it.

MIke.

If you don't put it in a frame, it will shrink quite a bit...
