i have been having this problem that when im in 4 wheel there is a loud clunking noise that i cant figure out were its coming from. today i got under the truck to check the CAD out and make sure thats working fine. then i tried to turn the front driveshaft in 4H with the truck off so the axle wasnt locked and it sounded and felt like the chain was slipping over the teath. could that be my hole problem? im almost possitive thats not suppost to do that. any ideas thanks.

could you hear it coming from the T case? if not, chances are that since your truck was off, there was no active vacuum to engage the CAD, but they may have been some pressure left in the lines just enough to slide the fork over a tad and allow the CAD collar to touch the inner shaft. this would give you that same feeling. execpt instead of teeth skipping it would be the feeling of splines touching eachother
its coming from the t chase, i can hear it very clearly under there
will a NP241 or NP241HD mount up just like my Np231HD? I would like to see if i can get a heavier one insted of rebuilding this one.
I have a similiar problem with mine, that after going through the entire front axle I think I've narrowed down to the T-Case. I figured I should stop throwing parts at it, so next week when I hook hitches with my buddys '74 Dodge maybe it will remove all doubt on where the problem is.

mad ram did it.. i believe there is some issue with the input shaft being a different lenght or diameter, i can remember. do a search and see what you come up with. but a tranfer case rebuild kit is pretty darn cheap and you can do it yourself very easily

Well considering I have no way to put the drivetrain under load while I am under the truck listening to where it comes from, I don't have many choices. From in the truck it sounds like it could be comming froma nywhere.

Real mechanics, obviously, tend to do stuff more like using stacked spacers, 5 foot track bar drops, etc. :fu: :rotfl:
