Was looking at the Pro Comp 3" spindles. Looks like I can get the spindles & rear add-a-leafs for right at $600.
What are the steps to installing these?
I just put in new Rancho 5000's, stock size. Will these be fine, or do they need longer? My understanding is that you don't have to get longer shocks.
Thanks,
JB

i know with coil spacers on the 2wd models you dont need to go bigg on the shocks the stock size is fine. I have a 2inch spacer from rough country and im runnin stock rancho 5000 and fit just fine, but with a spindle lift i think you might have to get bigger front shocks because its moving the arms out away from each other. I would call procomp or rancho to see what they say.

oh yeah how do you like your rancho 5000's?
mine ride pretty ruff on the streets, my freeway is smooth and my off roading is pretty firm. I like em accept on the streets.

GREEN MACHINE try aim , first they have better prices and a lot of products, like raised leaf spring hangers, something to consider, instead of the leafs which will increase the stiffness of the ride, in the rear.just a thought.<!-- BBCode u1 Start -->http://www.truckn.com/" TARGET="_blank<!-- BBCode u1 End -->

Rawkon - Yeah that's the thing, I just didn't know how the spindles were put in, and if they affected the shocks. The tech note on them says "upgraded shocks not required, but strongly recommended". So I think I'll call Pro Comp for the full info.
I think the Rancho 5000's are pretty good. My stock shocks were getting pretty bad, so it was a big improvement! The front end doesn't dive on brake, and roll is less in the turns. I'm happy with them <IMG SRC="/board/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif">

bullram - I have seen the Aim spindles on their page, but I had read where someone had them, & had to grind down some metal, and really work to make them fit. Can't remember if it was a 2wd though. Guess I should call them too. Could really save some $$$!

Thanks,
JB

Follow-up:
I called Pro-Comp & AIM about the spindles. The way the spindle lifts are configured, you retain the stock length shocks, and are still able to align to factory oem specs. Also, I asked about wheel backset, and they can be no more than 3 1/2". (My current wheels are 4.25")
Also called Rough Country, and their kit with springs up front for $310 does not come with upper control arms, and while they say arms are only needed for off-road, that makes me a little leary....

I just read your other post ,our stock wheels will not fit with the spindles that is why I didnt want them at this time, they are great if you have other wheels, the stock shocks size shock would work on the spindles, they tell you to get other shocks, simply because they know you are going to put bigger tires and wheels, hence the need for more valving in your shocks,,hope this helps, good luck my friend

When i went to get my truck alignment done after the rough country lift the guy said i would need a longer control arm if i wanted the truck to be aligned correctly. He said my tires where cambered in a little, so the tires where wearing faster on the inside part of the tread.

Not to start a flame but I can tell you of many 2wd running the lift without any longer controll arms, mine might be different but it was only out a few degrees, which was corrected by the alignment shop,I have no abnormall tire wear now, and didnt have any with my 245-75-16 tires.just my own perspective.......

i didnt have a wear problem with my origanal 245 75 R16 , but i do now with 265 75 R16
its not that big of a deal i just rotate my tires more often. Also the fact the my truck has had all four tire of the ground several dozen times might have had an affect on the bad alignment in the front. (truck still rides very smooth)

That is the difference- if the tires come off the ground the rebound rate is a lot more than it use to be ,so the tires actually scrub the ground on contact, the wear would be on the insides, similar to when a vehicle has bad struts or shocks, that was a very good thought....

As much as my alignment shop would LOVE for me to get upper control arms, I still dont have them and they still can get it aligned within factory tolerance after a long time playing with it. They say the arms would really help them alot (cuz I got lifetime alignment for $150) but I just havent had the time or $$$ to get them (just bought a house).
So you really dont have to have them, but it really helps.
