Just put together a pretty nasty little small block for my square body. I’m estimating it to be about 475-500 horse. The link is a short idle clip, it sounds very good.
Steel crank, flat top pistons, .40 over bore, 10:1 compression. 575/580 at 280 duration, 1.6 roller rockers. aluminum 200cc heads 2.02,1.6 valves, brawler double pumper, mechanical advance HEI.
That should be fun, when are you going to drop it in? I have a couple K5 blazers (86 and 87), I keep thinking about doing something for a little more HP in my 87.
I already dropped it in. I’ve never driven a lifted 4x4 with so much acceleration. It slings mud like it’s nothing but I drive it on the street too. Took it to grab some take out food the other day and man it just goes lol I’m estimating around 500 horse. Had a mild built vortec in the truck prior to this
Nice, I have thought about doing an LS swap in my 87, that TBI is just not very much HP. The 86 has a healthy 350 in it that's a little more fun to drive. What transmission are you running?
The tbi are like 185 hp. The swirl port heads and dish pistons really bring em down a ton. A set of vortec heads and a cheap cam/lifter set would really wake that motor up. LS are great too. I’ve got a 2013 Silverado with a cammed 5.3 and that thing rips lol I also have another one with a 6.0. Cost wise I’d just do top end on the tbi motor. I’m running a built 700r4. A 30 spline. Newer 90s style. My transmission guy said I’d blow a 27 spline to pieces. I had the trans built for this motor. They’re both fresh.
I have thought about that, but I figure by the time I get this engine running "decent" I will have almost as much as an LS swap. I also have a SBC 400 sitting in my shop I thought about throwing in there.
