Well I did it. After fighting off a monster case of the electrical Gremlins, rebuilding the front axle, installing my 6" lift and 35" BFG's, all new brakes, and I'm sure a couple of things I'm forgetting. I baptized my truck in the ways of Old Man Mud tonight. Really well if I may say so.
Ok, here's how it all starts. Its not really that big of a thing, but for a first time hard core 4 wheelin I was pleased, but I want something more challanging next time.
You go off the paved road, down thru some tall grass into an abandoned farm field, thru a bunch of thick brush avoiding this one tree that I'm gonna cut down next time I'm back there (its 2" in diameter) cause its right where your truck wants to lean and almost took off my passanger side mirror. Then up a big hill, probably 40' tall and at a 75-80 degree incline. Once up the hill you go thru a little muck pit and then thru some more trees and brush then you're at the pit. Its an old baseball and football field (two fields) with tall grass seperating them except for the paths thru from the trucks.
I started in the football field played there a little getting used to how the truck felt in the mud. Then I got up some speed and went head first into the mud pit. Ya gotta turn real hard once you get in the pit( cause its like going from 1st base to home plate and you finish up at 3rd base) to get the full potential of the pit. There are a couple of ruts and mud grooves to go play in too.
I probably made 5-6 runs thru the pit the first time I was out there tonight, then we all left. Going down that hill was kinda hairy... being my first time going down somethin like that I put it in 4 Lo Lock, and granny gear and clutched it down using the brake when I felt the truck gettin to fast. We went back to a gas statin to refuel. Everyone walkin by was like "holy hell, how'd u get them THAT dirty?". Then everyone went they're seperate ways, and I went back to the hole. I know not the smartest thing to do but I wanted to run it one more time and no one else did.
I went back up the hill (it wasn't as bad this time cause I knew what to expect), made 4 more runs thru the pit but going the other way this time to get the passanger side of my truck as filthy at the drivers side was. Coming down the hill was better the second time too, but being so high off the ground was wierd, it felt like I was still climbing but I wasn't. I guess I'll get used to it the more I 'wheel.
Anyways, just wanted to talk about my first experience where people would understand me. My girlfriend looked at me like I'm nuts then walked away.
Later all and happy 'wheeling!
