i want to attempt makingf a 12' fiberglass boat, on wich i could throw on 2 seats, and a big engine..

just wondering if anybody ever tried it, i have no clue on how to start this thing. i know there is molds to do and such for fiberglass just wondering if anyone had some tips for me :)

thanks for your time, Jason

My friend made one out of wood was a 16 footer with a 200hp motor was super clean. But how big of an engine are you talking? outboard or blown big block chevy with a jet drive
just a 60 horse evinrude motor, im wanting to install the steering and everything i though about making it out of wood and just fiberglassing the surface to make it have a nice smooth finish but i am really unsure how i want to do this.

ive just been looking around for alot of info that's all haha.

Thanks Jason

Hulls are cheap. Motors are expensive.

Since you have the motor, just buy the hull. Vualaaaaaa.

Unless you're just in it for the project, in which case i say go for it.
just in it for a project, i don't have a motor yet or anything, just doing some research before starting anything, i might just end up buying an old boat and doing a full restoration, im wanting a boat for water skiing and tubing next year so that would be my deadline, next summer haha.

Thanks for the responses

Jason.
buying a boat hull would be a lot easier in the long run. As far as I know, even to do a fiberglass hull, you still need to build the wooden hull first, out of plywood...I helped a buddy do that a couple years ago, and unless you're REALLY good with woodworking, have all the tools you need at your disposal, I don't really think it's worth the time to try to build a fiberglass hull yourself, unless you just want to do it to say you did it.
Are you going to be making this in your basement?
Haha no this was at the beggening of the summer and i ended up buying a use damaged boat with a 60 horsse yamaha engine and fixed it all up then turned around anx sold it for 3000 bucks haha.. its a payong hobby

tango, i have a big garage at home ;-) i used to be a logger and not anymore garage can fit two transports with trailes side by side to give u an idea how big it ithanks for looking everybody maybe next time il do a boat fixing thread haha
In order to build a boat firstly make a design. After makin a basic design there is time to start building aboat. The next step is to choose the required material like as wood and plywood. Finally the construction of boat by using this material.
