just bought a 99 F 250 4x4 with the 6 speed manual trans and ckecked it out underneath after a 10 hour drive home. found red tran fluid leaking between the trans and the transfer case. has anyone had this kind of leak and maybe the cost of getting it fixed. Tim

Hmmm... usually red fluid is what you put in an automatic transmission. I haven't seen any red fluid for a manual yet. Maybe someone put the wrong gear lube in the tranny, and it's too thin? I don't know exactly. Maybe I'm wrong but I haven't seen red for manual yet. Othwise my 78 F250 has a manual transmission, and it's always leaky. I guess the best thing to do would just be to check the level every once in a while. Just take off the fill plug and stick your finger in there and see how much is in there. I don't know how much I've helped, but hopefully something will come up. I'd kind of like to know too, because mine leaks too.
There are seals that go between the tranny and t/c. im going to a$$ume its that seal thats leaking.

cheap seals but ive never actually changed one so i wouldnt be any help there...

my manual tranny uses ATF fluid. it's a mazda (i think?) dervied tranny. in my 94 f-150.
yes my tranny also uses dextron mercon 3 auto trans fluid. It is a mazda 5 speed trans that ford used.
got the bad news today from the shop, there is a crack in the adapter housing, between the trans and the transfer, WOW my bad luck
