I'm tring to remove the valves from my heads. I have them in the garage so dropping a valve into the cylander isn't a issue.

I have the valve spring compressor, but how do I unlock the keeper and remove it so that I can remove the entire assembly?

Chris,

Normally once you have the spring compressed the valve stem locks are right there on the valve stem. Sometimes they just fall out but most the time you have to take a screwdriver and pry the two halve apart.
I have seem a few extream cases where you almost had to chisle them off.

There shouldnt be any real problem unless the retainer is not compressing with the spring.
