info on backspacing

OK don't burn me just yet for asking another question that has been answered.

What I'm wondering is, that if I go to a bigger (wider) rim and wider tires does the backspacing need to change? Or If I just go with as wide as tire that can fit on the same size rime (17X8) does the backspacing need to change. I'm just unclear on this subject.

Thanks in advance.

if you keep the same backspacing the tire/wheel will stick out farther. this will cause the tire to get closer to the sheetmetal when you turn. it will put more load on the hubs.

if you keep the same BS on teh same size wheel with wider tires, only 1/2 the increase in tire width will be on the inside of the wheel, where you may them hit the frame or suspension/steering parts when you turn. the other 1/2 of the increase in width will be ont eh outside and will have less chance of hitting the fenders when turn than with more BS wheels (or wider wheels with same BS)
i wouldnt do more than a 12.50 width, i have 35 12.50 15 on a 15x8 rim with 3.75 BS, it is a great fit!, i think if you went anywider than that you would rub or stick out so far it looks dumb..just my .02..you can also look here at others set ups..
