I my self love every thing about the XJ and am not happy with it's replacement.<IMG SRC="/board/images/smilies/icon_frown.gif">
for that reason I plan to eather keep what I have or when funds permit get a 2001 the last of the breed.

I don't like Cherokee's, they are to plain. I think the grand cherokee's are better. Jeep is stupid though for replacing the XJ with the KJ Liberty, it looks like a KIA mini suv. IFS? what were they thinking? That just ruins the Jeep

I am going to stick with the XJ Cherokee. I think the same as all of u. I dont like the liberty either.

I love my cherokee, it might not be a mud hog yet, but it's getting there, and I'd like to see one of those little girly libertys go anywhere that my jeep would with the same amount of money in it

I love my XJ also. I had to get a rent-a-car a couple weeks ago so what did I get? A Liberty. What better thing to do with a rental? TAKE IT WHEELIN! I kicked the {expletive} out of this thing and what a piece of junk. No flex at all and it bottomed out on even the smalest rocks. Not ever close to the performance of me cherokee when it was stock. But what can ya do. These car companys aren't focused on the 4-wheelin community. they are just looking to sell trucks. :fu:

My dad asked me if I wanted a sedan or what. I go "no way in hell, i'm buying another XJ"
I've already got one, but I don't like it, it's too old, about to get me a 95 or 96 soon.

i cant believe someone would say the grand is better then a good ole XJ. grand cherokees can be made into real good trail rides but out of the box the plain old cherokee is waaaay better. and in yes the liberty blows goats. :shoot:

:fu: To the "Liberty" Euro-crap. I come from a family of mechanics. My grandfather owned and operated a wrecking yard all my life, and my father was Chief Master Mechanic/Engineer for the Lompoc Fire Dept. We have been dealing with Jeeps for as long as I can remember. I have seen them all. Very little compares the seven bearing I-6 surrounded by an xj box. Not the Grand(which is nice), CERTAINLY not the Fluberty(which is a COLOSSAL waste of time and money), and not the Rubicon(NICE!), which is WAY overrated for what it actually IS and what you can actually do to it. The XJ is and always has been very UNDERRATED. It is a very versitile off-road platform, and much tougher than most unibodies ever dream of being. Did I mention that Im impressed with the XJ? Whomever had the Idea to drop the XJ from the Jeep line and replace it with the Fluberty AND whoever developed the "Unitized" front axle bearing should be :kicknuts: :twak: :shoot:

AMEN brotha. i have always liked the squared lines of the XJ too. not like the curvy sante fe crap the pump off the a$$embly lines nowadays :shoot:

I bought my first XJ this year so I don't have much experiance with them but I plan on keeping it for a while.

Still not sure if it will be my dd or a trailrig.

Hi All, new to this board. I have a 88 lifted XJ and I love it. It is too bad they stopped production because the XJ is a nice off roading machine once you have it lifted and lock the rear. But I think you are a bit harsh on the KJ. I own an '02 KJ, and with modifications, am able to go everywhere I went with my XJ. Take a look at http://www.kjjeep.com or http://www.lostkjwest.comand check out the photos there, I think you would be fairly suprised.

As far as loving my XJ I wouldn't say that just because of the crappy Peugot tranny. The main thing I love about it is how cheap I got it for, I owe my parents about $500(that includes buying it, licensing, emmisions, and an alternator and deforster motor). Only things that it needed were and alternator, water pump, defroster motor, and new u-joints. I'm keeping this one rather small do to the weak tranny but I may but another XJ with the 4.0 AW4 combo.

The AW4 is a pretty dagone nice auto tranny!

This is an old thread from a couple years ago...but I will pipe in. I love the XJ. The unibody is kinda of a pain, but otherwise, it is pretty capable. :bigthumb:

I've been around alot of 4x4's but the XJ is by far the best I've ever worked with. My mom is a Rual letter carrier and she loved her '94 XJ. Never once got stuck and she has the longest, most defficult(terrain wise) route in the state. We keept it stock and it still was basicly unstopable. The only probly we really had with it was it would get a lil on the hot side some times. It was still runin stong at 300,000 miles on the original 4.0 and auto trany when we sold it back in september. And I have the same things to say bout my XJ. An '84 with the 2.5 in-line 4 and a 4spd manual trany. Only trouble it ever gave me was it ran a lil hot and leaked some oil. I just put it in the shop at 285,000 on the second motor to work on it. And the 2 door style kicks a$$! Love that look.

Yep, the inside was like your normal 2 door XJ only the steering wheel and gauges were on the right side. Had bucket seats and the shifter in the center, that lil basterd was fun. We also had a mitsubishi(sp?) mighty max set up for right hand drive. Now she useds a '99 mazda B4000 4x4 but since its the normal left hand drive she sits in the center of the seat and drives like that so she can reach the boxes out the passenger window. You see alot of rual carriers doin that. Kinda scary too me :shock:
