My brother and I went out yesterday through some trails out by the Space Center. I had planned to go with one of my friends with an F-250 4x4, but he couldn't go, so because I still wanted to go, but wouldn't start to go alone in my 2x4, I brought my older brother came along - in his Honda CR-V.
I know it sounds humerous, but we figured, hey, it's got real-time 4wd, might as well see how well it works out. We weren't doing anything that required too much ground clearance, except for a couple of the hills he couldn't do because his suspension and tires are so small. The 4wd on it worked good though, only kicked it when the front tires started to slip, and was always noticable when the grip popped in.
I know I'm going to hear millions of cracks back about it being a Honda, or the fact that it's an SUV more designed with a grandmother in mind, but for the fact that he got the car from our parents for free, can't complain about it, especially not the way it handled, with being a honda and all-stock.
