I hear yall talk about this engine alot. I am not exactly ssure what it is. Could anyone tell me about the hemi? Size, power, how you can get one, ect. What is so great about it? How does it compare to a 318 V8, 360 V8, or a 8.0 V10? How does it compare to a chevy 454? This probably sounds like a dumb question to yall but i just dont really know much about it.

Thanks

a hemi engines were big in the late 60's when chyrstler came out with them. the have a special head design, am am not real sure about them either, i just know that they are bad ass, and anything that say hemi as a prefix is also bad ass. for example, hemi-cuda, hemi bird, and so on. mopar preformance makes them again and you can buy them from summit, jegs, or a mopar deiler for starting at 10K. the popular ones are the 426 which makes 465 hp and 485 ft-lbs of torque. the 528hemi makes 610 hp and 650 ft lbs of tourque. althought pricey, one word comes to mind... "massive!"

Cool, thanks, any more info on this would be appreciated.

Do yall think you could get more power out of an 8.0 magnum V10 with tons or performance parts or a 528 hemi with tons of performance parts and could you even fit that engine in a ram?

are they just carberated(however you spell that) or can you get them fuel injected too? Also, can you get stuff like superchargers and nos for them?

"Hemi" comes form the shape of the combustion chamber which is hemmispherical. It is basically the form of a half circle with the valves at an angle and the spark plug in the center. One advantage is the flame path is very short cause of where the spark plug is located. They are good at drawing in a large volume of the mixture which obviuosly makes a higher output then similar size heads.

i emailed one place for Mopar Performance parts and for some reason they sent me crate engine prices. the 528 puts out over 600 hp and cost about 18k. the cheapest hemi is 14k.
