How hard is the swap? Is it worth it over the 1.3L or should I just get the transfercase gears? I found a motor and tranny for pretty cheap just wondering if I should jump on the deal or not. Will the motor just bolt up?

if it is an 8 valve it is an easy swap. it is not a huge gain over a good running 1.3, but if you have a tired 1.3 you will notice a huge increase. now if you are talking a 16vavle 1.6 then it is a bit more involved, and more powerfull yet. do gears before you do the 1.6 swap. gears will give you a bigger improvment. you will need a swap kit from any one of the normal zuki vendors. cost a couple of hundered dollars.
Check the Petroworks site. http://www.petroworks.com They have a kit.
When swapping this into a samurai do I need the flywheel and clutch on the 1.6 or can I use the flywheel off a 1.3?

The transfercase is geared horribly high (low numerically) from the factory. That'd be the first place I'd address.
in the swap you use the 1.6 starter and the 1.3 flywheel http://members.cox.net/aftermarket4x4/comp_proj.html

this guy has a good writeup for what is involved

if you have a carbed samurai than the swap is pretty much the same for the 8v or 16v swap in either one you will need the wiring harness converted to go into the samurai an external fuel pump or install one in the gas tank and adapter plate to go between the new engine and tranmission

if you have a fuel injected samurai than you can swap the samurai intake on to the 1.6 8v engine but if you go to 16v it is multi port fuel injected and you will need the complete wiring harness

that clear as mud?
