I am about to put the 3" procomp standard kit on my truck. I'm also about to get the 15"/10" (3.25"backspacing) wheels and 33"/12.5" BFG all terrains. I've decided that i'm going to swap my stock 3.55 gears because I think that they would be alitte high for 33's. I have decided on 4.10's because i think 4.56's would be alittle low. I am eventually going to add a 3" body lift and repace the 33's with 35's and I think that the 4.10's will work just fine with the 35's too. What i need to know is what all the gear swap will involve. Has anyone priced a basic gear swap? What all parts will i need to buy? How much will labor be? How much will the actual gears and parts be? How long will my truck be in the shop getting the gears installed? What is the total price i'm lookin at?

My swap from 3.55's to 4.56's was $1000. That included front and rear gear sets, new front carrier (Dana 44 needs a new carrier when swapping from 3.92 and taller to 4.10 or lower), new bearings, seals, fluid, labor etc. Had the truck back the next day.

With the manual tranny, you should be just fine with 4.10s and 35's later. The low 1st gear is what makes 4.10s' okay to get rolling and still have good highway RPMs in 5th.

That $1000 I paid included Dana/Spicer fronts and Precision rear gear sets. Avoid the lifetime warranty 4WheelPars gears if you are going to run it hard. At least that is what I heard from some of the guys over at Pirate4x4.com. Lifetime gear warranty is good, but not if you're break on some trail 200 miles from nowhere.

The quote I got was $1060 for FRT/REAR 3.55 to 4.10's. That was with me pulling the carrier units. If they were to do it, add $400 they said.

Is swapping really necisary for 33's? Will i have to do it immediately? Thats alot of money!!I probably will swap soon with the 33's and definately if i ever get 35's later but can i go awhile with stock 3.55's with 33's for a while without screwin' something up?

I would not go above 33's with your stock gears. A lot of folks are running 33's with 3.55's and doing okay. Seems that 33" is the break off point for tranny failure.

OK, here's my thoughts. Right now I have 3.55 gears and 33's on my Bronco. Runs OK . . . get's up pretty good. One week from today I am putting on 35 in Pro Comp Mud Terrains. They really measure out to 34.7 in . . . about 1.5 in. taller than what i have now. That means the tire radius is only about .78 in more than what I have. That's nothin! Performance may suffer slightly, although I doubt I will hardly notice it. I certainly hope that something so small wouldn't do damage to a Ford C6 tranny. I will just have to live with the gears until the first of the year when I can afford 4.56 gears and a Lockright in the rear.

Bring on the beer, babes, and Broncos!!!

Well, unfortunately I put the majority of my money into the lift and tires. I know your supposed to do as much as possible at once, but the lift and tires were too tempting.
I only have 9k miles on a new tranny, so hopefully it won't eat it up too fast! <IMG SRC="/board/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif">

i have 33's and 4.10's and it runs great. the 3.55's will pull 35's just fine, although youll wanna switch to a bigger gear if you do alot of wheeling. my friend runs 3.55's with 35X14.5 inch tires and a 5 inch suspension and 3 inch body lift and it runs good. and he somehow gets 17 mpg in that thing too.
