i have an '01 SLT with the factory plastic door molding the plastic RAM 1500 V8 stamped on the door, does anybody know of a way to remove these without damaging the paint, i heard a hair dryer will help to remove them, has anybody else done this sort of thing
I recently used an industrial heat gun (fancy hair dryer) to remove the vinyl dealer decal that was on my tail gate.
It worked very well. I didnt need to put too much heat on it either before it peeled right off.<IMG SRC="/board/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif">
The vinyl decals came off my black truck in 15 minutes just from teh heat of having it sitting in the direct sun. A bit of goo-gone to take up the little bit of adhesive left behind, and you can't tell they were ever there.
The plastic molded ones should come off the same way. A heat-gun, or hot hair-drier, something plastic to pry under them with (the vinyl decals come off with a finger-nail, but you need a bit more grip with the plastic ones). But jost go slow, and be patient.
And use the goo-gone to remove any leftover adhesive.
Once removed, you should wash the truck immediately, and wax it well (hand/orbital with carnuba), because there is NO protective wax between those decals and the clear-coat on the paint.
I finally took off all the decals, the molding was easy, it just rolled off your finger, but the plastic emblems were a pain, the black rubber adhesive didnt come off easy, i used 2 bottles of goo gone and some scratch remover and they finally came off, it looks really good, still debatingh on whether to do the tailgate or not.
