I was wondering if anyone knows how hard it would be to change a truck with EFI to Carb. My brother wickedakota is putting a 318 into his 1990 Dakota (as some of ya may know). But the problem is that the 318 is Carb. and the V-6 that was stock in his truck has EFI. How hard would be to switch it from EFI to Carb. with all the wires running to the computer for the EFI system? Replies would be appreciated.

I think it would be a lot easier than going the other way. basically all you need to do is get power from the key, and hook it up to the ignition system. The dummy lights inside would be the hard part. You will definately need a fuel regulator and possibly a new pump. EFI pressures are up around 40 psi. You only want 5-7 psi for a carb. I would also upgrade the radiator.

Hello the swap would be , not to hard the passing of inspection would be very hard, go to the inspection station ask them what the vehicle would need to pass the visual, if you are only going to be off road , there would be no problem, remember when the running inspectio is done they are going to take readings for a 1990 fuel injected truck, and the carb is not going to be as clean , as will allow.......check into it..good luck

Actually depending on your location, you may not even be able to make that swap legally. I know in california, if you do a swap it has to come from a newer vehicle of the same type (ie car ==> car, truck ==> truck) then you have to have a referee station give you a certificate. I would go to the inspection station in your area and talk to them. That way there are no surprises

basically just take the computer out. the only thing you need is the basic switched power from the key. but the alternator might be a bit tricky. get a good look at the electrical system of the car thats donating, it should be able to help you.

Alrite I will get a good look at the other electrical system before I start to any major swaps. If anyone has any tips for me on this topic too feel free to tell me. Thanx
