Do I have to have long arms? Or make mine longer??

First off just want to say thanks to you guys for all help, there's alot of good info on this site.
So i've got the 4.5 skyjacker lift on my truck now. got a 3inch body lift, and 3inch coil spacers still in boxes. Soon to be getting some new leafs. Am i kidding myself thinking these spacer are going to work with the lift thats on it. I know i will need a track bar. With the 4.5 arms is it just going to mess everything up. I just need the truck to drive down the road, no off roading. Is there anyway it will work for now and later get the long arms??? I know you guys have tried just about every kind of set up there is. Just want to see if i'm shoting myself in the foot here!! :wall:

Thanks, Chris

You are really pushing the 5" arms with a 3" spacer on a 2500.
why do you need so much lift for a road queen? :flipoff:
Don't get me wrong, if theres a mud hole thats in a feild nice and easy to get to, I'm going to hit'er. Going through trails and climbing rocks, and seeing how far i can flex. not for me.
You can stick the spacers in there but, It will ride like poo. The longer the arms the better the ride.

yes poo allaxcs :rotfl:

im sure it will just pull your axle back a little and yes ride like poo but it will prolly work
It already rides like poo!! so it'll ride like poo poo!! :rotfl: But realy, If i get long arms should i use the 4.5 springs w/spacers, or 7in coils??
depends if you are a cheapo or not haha same thing can get accomplished basically since you arent a hardcore flexer outter :bigthumb:
you will probably retain more lift with the 4.5" and spacers than the 7"ers. I was going to do that, but I like the all coil look better. I rode around with the 7" coils and 4.5" arms for a while and couldn't stand the ride/handling. The long arms make a world of difference.
You could always extend the short arms to recenter the axle like I did, I have 8.5" up front and the ride is pretty good, should work for a mostly street queen!
I know in the past there was a big forum disscusion about making the arms longer. Everyone kept talking about how it would be hard to get them the right, how long should the bottom ones be comparied to the top. something about caster mybe, i duno, some one can help me out here. mybe if i could make them a little longer would help. How did you do yours?? were they the skyjacker, for the 4.5 lift?? Do you have any pic's of your control arms?? Thanks Chris
I made mine upper and lower right about 2" longer, I have square control arms not the skyjacker ones but I did use the relocation brackets like you should have, here is a pic and like I said the caster stayed good and the pinion angle is also pretty well.

So you made the top and bottom both two inches longer? now that you got them done, does it look like youshould of made one alittle longer than other? Has the ride, pretty good?
There is plenty of down and up travel with the length they are, the ride is actually better than my stock arms with 3" coils, less feedback from the road, because of the relocation brackets is why I did just 2" even, without the brackets I would have had to make them both longer and different lengths!
Not to say it can't be done or the way you did it is wrong, RS_SS69, Just want to know if anyone else has tried this, If i would make them just alittle longer, say 2inch, like RS_SS69 did, I think i would be better than not at all.
Smokenram, I think that ramsport59 extended his but he doesnt have the relocation brackets you might want to pm him!
You'll want to move the brackets back so the angles aren't so steep. Longer arms in the stock location will probably suck a$$ for you just due to the steep angles.
Here is a pic of mine after the fact....The anlges are not to bad at all...This is 7" of lift on a 1500.
