a wheel joint is not a no maintenance item. 70k is a good run on those.

air not out the vents is a simple vacuum check valve replacement. a couple $$ and few minutes to fix it.

plenum gasket is a design flaw in my opinion. fix is fairly simple but is about $100 to do it yourself with an aluminum plenum plate.

jsut remember, you cant get mad about regular wear and tear or maintenance items that you dont keep up on that may fail or result in other problems.
yeah your right, i guess i needed to vent, it just that its all kind of happening at once.

:withstupid: but it always seem to hit at the worst times for me! :rotfl: guess that just part of owning anything!
I tell ya what with my 98 dakota, 98% of the time "It's a good, reliable truck. Best truck I ever owned." When something goes on it, even small problems, I'm in truck trader looking to trade in "that old piece of {expletive}." I give it props because its got 90k on it right now. tranny's not perfect but it works. Nothing major has gone on it right now. Everything that goes is small, cheap fixes. Right now its in the shop getting the wheel studs changed! It's amazing I bring the truck to the shop b/c I don't have time to fix it, yet I got time to surf pavementsucks.com for about 2 hours every day! Hmmmmm......
IMHO any and every truck sucks if you don't keep up with maintenance. Vehicles have parts that are meant to wear out. If you have a 4x4 parts wear faster, if you lift it, even faster.
Go buy a ford, then you wont be crying like a little B*TCH about a real truck ...... :loser:

Alot of these items that you state can be attributed to owner neglect 'tard! :sorry:
how is it neglect, everything that is wrong is stuff that just messed up, either from "design flaws" or they are just old. but not because i neglect my truck because i dont. jeez...it just sucks because it all happens at a bad time and ticks me off. no reason to get all @$$y about it

Since when did everybody on this site become hardcore? Seems like the pirate mentality has overtaken this site.

Jason (TheBoss) pretty much summed it up...the only real/"major" issue you have, I would guess, is your plenum gasket. And, at that, that's not so much a difficult repair as it is a time consuming one (to remove all cr*p on the top of the engine, including the intake manifold, making the repair/replacing the gasket, and re-installing everything).
no doubt, i wanted to vent and wonder if anyone else shared my pain, not be called names. what the point in that???
A few parts wear out or break and the truck "sucks". Well then..... I believe the mentality of the post subject to its content is a relative demeanor of your general mentality sir. You asked and you received. My basic point is that you should be happy that thats all thats wrong with it, it could be worse and you could have an inferior model of truck..........I dont need to say anymore.

:withstupid: I have changed almost everything on my truck except the main body and frame :rotfl: - u name it: engine, cooling system, fuel system, AC system, electrical, axles, suspension, doors, the list goes on and on.... hell even my cup holder broke. When it breaks I get pissed off with it and yell and scream an threaten to sell it but then it dawns on me that my truck is 15 years old.

yeah it sucks when trucks break, but it's inevitable.

Hey Cannonball, If it makes you feel any better I've probably had more recalls on my Toyota than your Dodge :D:
don't get me wrong i love my ram and i know parts wear out. it just seems to me that if the problems are common on the rams, dodge would do something about it. i'm not talking about wear and tear parts.
i know things could be worse
I don't believe an 8 year old vehicle with 70k miles should have nearly that many problems. According to your profile you have a stock truck with 33's on it. I don't know if you wheel it or not, if you do that wouldn't help. Just about everybody I've ever talked to that has owned any kind of dodge has said what a POS their auto trannys are. It is not uncommon for them to go out at 60-70k. I also have a cousin who sells trucks...he sells Fords and Chevys but refuses to sell dodges because he's had so many problems with them. Dodge Rams also resell a lot lower compared to Fords or Chevys of the same age/miles. So I would have to say yes, Dodge Rams suck!!!!!!!!!
In the big picture, what you describe isn't that big of a deal. Yeah, having to fix the plenum gasket, which is a known problem, sucks, but it's not like that problem has left you on the side of the roead. Same with the ventilation vents and the cross-joint. They are nuisances, but not something that's going to leave you stranded. Well, the cross-joint will, potentially, if you leave it neglected long enough.

It should take you 2-3 hours, tops, to replace the cross-joint, if you choose to do it yourself, with a jack, jackstand, and hand tools. The vent problems is a matter of chasing down a vacuum leak...not so much a pain in the *ss as it is just time consuming. There are TSBs concerning vacuum problems with these trucks, as well

Be thankful it wasn't something major like I experienced last week, when the rear brake line (the hard, steel line that runs along the frame) ruptured/broke from rotting away the last 8 years. :eyecrazy: That wasn't pleasant, to put it nicely.

Bottom line, no vehicle is without some little quirks or problems, regardless of brand.

Mainly '94-'02 Autos are known for problems. The new 45rfe and 545rfe are very reliable. People run 400 hp Hemi's backed by a stock 45rfe/545rfe and don't have problems. I had a Dakota with a 4.7/45rfe, with power mods done to it. I did lots of burnouts, a few donuts, and towed with it. Never gave me a problem, it has 112,000 on it. My uncle has a '00 CTD/auto on the stock tranny at 180,000 miles. My friend has a 99 CTD with 157,000 miles and still on the original tranny. Its the pick of the draw, some are bad, some can last 200k.
my grandpa's 98 Dodge Ram has 98,000 miles on the tranny and never had a problem, he also used to have a 91 Dodge Ram with 206,000 miles on the original manual tranny went.

my Dakota has 64,000 miles on it and never had any tranny issues with it or anything else.

my dad's 03 Ram has 33,000 miles on it,i think the tranny is built very well in the new Ram's

oh yeah :fu: maddog411 for saying Dodge Ram's suck.
I got 105k out of my tranny. 20k was with 35s and stock gears. @115k I just replced both stock hub bearings.
@88k I replaced axle ujoints an the ball joints.

After 50k anything in the front end Could go wrong with items not containing grease fittings any more.

All trucks suck if you have problems. Most of the time its because the owners use it for more than it was intended.
oh yeah :fu: maddog411 for saying Dodge Ram's suck.

Well :fu: as well then. I stated the reasons I have for saying dodge rams sucks, and its not just the trannies. It is my opinion and you are certainly entitled to yours. The man asked if all dodge trucks suck and at least from what I know, Rams do suck.
one of my good friends has had 3 trannys in her dodge and needs a new one right now... and shes had all sorts of problems with it and she dosnt wheel or ragg on it or anything like that- and she swears its in the shop more than its on the road- now im not saying dodge is a crappy truck or anything like that but i dont think you should have to replace your transmission in a newer truck that many times... i really like the way dodge trucks look and i know people that dont have that many problems with their ram but i wouldnt want to have to buy another vehicle so i dont loose my job becuase my truck is in the shop so much
