Howdy. I have a 97 Ram 1500. And light is on and I believe I need a time ring or sensor. Mine are.the external sensor that mounts to the back of the knuckle. Dodge and aftermarket no longer make these external sensors. It says my year truck could come with either system as 97 was the break year for gen 1 and gen 2 abs. External sensors or internal to the hub. Will the internal style hub and sensors work fine as a replacement pair as opposed to trying to scrounge used parts to fix the old style system. I have been told they will work but I want to be sure before laying out that much money. As long as they communicate properly with the 4 wal abs in my truck the hubs are the same. I am sure someone has done this. Anyhow any.help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. Nick

Yes it is. All I did is changed the axle u j oints, after that the abs motor can on when braking on dry pavement and the truck flat wouldn't stop. Pulled the fuse and connector to 4wal computer and it has now reverted to standard braking. And to answer you, yes the tone ring is on the axle. Maybe I damaged it? Are they that fragile?

No, they are not typically. I have seen sensors get metal on them or need adjustment for similar setups on other vehicles.

Thank you for the information. I can't be the only one who has ever faced this problem. I know with nobody making parts for these anymore this question will come up soon. I will look.at the sensors and check the air gap. Thank you again for helping. Nick
