Well my dad just got a 04 Chevrolet HD 2500 4x4 silverado and its got a vortec 6.0. Well is this a big block 396? Does that make since since the 350 is a 5.4 and the 6.0 could be a 396. Surely it isn't a 383 stroker.

Yea it is a 396....I love that motor too my mom has one stock power is nice and when modded they get ridiculous.

I Dont know what conversions ya'll use but...

A 350 C.I. is 5.7 Liters!!!!!!

A 6.0 Liter is a 366 C.I roughly!!!!!

These are off +/- 3 C.I.

The newer 4.8 is the old 283 (Replacement for the 305) The newer 5.3 is the old 327 (Replacement for the 350) The newer 6.0 is the old 400 (New Small Block) The newer 8.1 is the old 454 (Replacement for the 454) The newer 6.6 Duramax is the old 6.2 and 6.5 Diesel (Replacement for the Turbo 6.5) Hope that helps some

The 6.0 is nowhere near 400 CI.... I understand what your saying though!!!! the 8.1 is a 496!!!!

they are not the same family of motors...
the new motors are based on LS-1 generation. (4.8,5.3,6.0)
the old motors are based on LT-1 generation.
(305,350,383,400)
they are completly different.

just to get alittle more technical the 5.3 is a 323 and the 8.1 has more a mix of old school rat and new tech has no relation to the gen III small blocks. and the 5.7 in gen III motors was a 346

The 6.0L is a small block. Didn't see anybody actually say that. The only big block they make in a GM truck right now is the 8.1L.

a 400 is 6.6L, remember the old firebirds? and a 454 was 7.4L. I think the formula that was listed above answers it all along with the other post that references them being completely different family of motors.

The vortec 6.0 has way more power than any non modified 400 had.
So it replaced the 400.
I have 2 trucks with the 6.0 2500hd hauling heavy loads, that motor never struggled 4 power.

Cubic inches displacement don't matter as much as they used to.
Technology has made much smaller engines very powerful.
My personal car is a 16 Subaru wrx it's only 2.0 liters but with the turbo, if is way faster than I need
