I have an 89 w150 with a 4" lift and 33's, but damn it needs to go bigger. So I have a bodylift on the way, new sawzall blades, and I picked up a dana 60 rear out of an 88. My question is that I've heard you can just swap the knuckles, hubs and brakes right out of a chevy d44hd to convert the front axle to an 8-lug pattern, essentially making it a 3/4 ton. Has anyone done this????? I'm not real keen on putting chebby parts in my battlewagon but the cheapest dodge 8 lug front axle I can find in ct is about $650. BTW Here's some pics of my baby in case you were interested. I know they're poser shots...I'ts hard to get good wheelin shots when I gotta drive the thing at the same time!

thats a good looking truck.

have you looked at rcc for the front axle.

a hdd44 should be around 250 in runable shape.

i paid alittle more then what you quoted above for my rebuilt dana 60.

I looked at ramchargercentral and talked to the guys in the ct chapter, and no one has one for sale. I was looking in uncle henry's, I figured maybe I can find one cheap up in Maine when I go to visit my uncle. But at the salvage yards the cheapest I found for a 44hd was $600 and they wanted $750 for a 60 front. I talked to a guy who had a 60 front but said he wouldn't even take the thing off the truck for less than $650. I think I'm gonna post something in the mass chapter forum in rcc too. There's just no dodge axles here in ct......

a chevy axle will fit, the spring perches are only 1/4 inch off on each side.

but a dana 60 for 650 is a good price as long as it is in runable shape.
