Here are the pics I snapped off of the visual differences between the 46RH tranny and the 46RE tranny.

They both use the same front half up to the bell housing, but the rear is different.

The 46RH is longer overall and non computer controlled for shifting.

The 46RE is the short one and is computer controlled shift points.

Ok, I thought he was going to install one of those in the Toy. That's why I was asking.
A question, are the 46RH and 46RE trannies the same at the inside?, I mean, clutches and everything.

I think the only reason that tailshaft is different is for the tcase possibly...it is the same unit, just has more meat on the back of the one. I was under the impression there were no differences between the two units other than one is computer controlled and the other was a hydraulic controlled. They should use all the same hard parts essentially.

Other than the computer would have a coniption, you could bolt an RH in place of an RE...but the computer would probably freak.

From what we found out.. the internals are also different. Prolly as far as the output shaft length and such.... We didn't tear them down to see the insides or anything.

You cannot use the 46RE in place of the RH since it is computer controlled.

Also the transfer case is a 231-D just like mine was. The difference is the output shaft housing on the 95 has provisions for the Vehicle Speed Sensor. The 46RE takes the VSS off the bottom side of the tail shatf housing on the tranny. (Didn't get a pic of that)

As stated.. this info is just so everyone knows. I was attempting to see if I could hook Chris up with my Tranny, but it didn't work out. So I thought I would share some info.

The 46rh you show is a pre electronic anything trans.
It has the old mechanical governor in it. Thats why the OD tail housing is longer.

You can make on RH work in place of an RE but I think you would have a more difficult time going the other way.

I'm pretty certain the hard parts and clutches are the same between the two.
