I happen to have a 5 gallon can of Military JP-8 fuel hanging around the garage. It's the same type of fuel that we run in all our Humvees and other trucks. I shouldn't have any problem dumping this into my Cummins right? It's basiclly the same thing as regular diesel as far as I know. I just don't want it to hurt anything.

LOL -- just happen to have huh? :rotfl:

I have ran the military diesel in regular non military diesel trucks before. Had no problems.

For the record, we fueled up an older powerstroke at Camp Atterbury with the military diesel that was being used for military purposes to transport a trailer when a 2.5 ton broke down. Only time I have ever seen the military diesel being used in non-military vehicles.

I figured it'd be ok...I'm pretty sure they fill up the TMP's (Civilian Vehicles the Military Uses) from the same pumps. I just figured I'd use it cause I've had it for a while and it's 5 gallons of free fuel. I just get kinda nervous when I think about pouring the same thing into my truck that we use to fuel or Helicopters and tanks

I have never ran in straight in a vehicle -- more like a 75/25 mixture -- we just topped off the truck we used to go get the trailer of equipment off the 2.5 ton. I dont see how running only 5 gallons could hurt -- or even running it straight, but who knows -- never hurts to wait for Steved or ISBdiesel (or anyone of the diesel gearheads) to chime in.

Run some motor oil with it for lubrication, but no, it won't hurt it.

Run about 1 quart of motor oil mixed with the 5 gallons. Should be good to go then...

it's just diesel, but the military has to put it's own special label on it. Everything military has to be made into abbreviations or acronyms. We fill up our humvees out in town, and we fill up or duramax trucks at the gov pumps, no issues. No need to put motor oil in it. The only thing to worry about is sometimes it is the cheap stuff, and they don't filter it really well, sometimes we get rust chips and stuff in the bottom of our fuel cans, or in the screen strainer on the pump nozzle. I wish I could fill up MY truck at the gov pumps, cause they don't sell diesel at the AFFES stations on base!

If I remember right the JP-8 we use in our Ground Equipment has a red dye in it like farm diesel.. They can test for it even after several tanks.. Odds of getting checked are pretty slim...but there is a chance..

Well this stuff isn't red, so I should be alright. I had always heard that it was the same as Diesel I just wanted to make sure it wasn't gonna burn super hot or anything. I poured it in there and no issues so far.

The AAFES here just started selling diesel at the new station they opened
