I'm gonna list my buddy's dad's 1971 Detomaso Pantera on eBay this week, and I'm wondering what it costs to sell a vehicle. Isn't there a fixed price for vehicles now??? Do they still charge a percentage of the selling price too??? The car is going to be selling in the $36K price range. I wanna know how much it is gonna cost to list/sell this thing.

    Chuckles,

When did you hear about the implementing a fixed price/cost deal for selling stuff, or was that specific to cars? Last I knew/last I sold something on there, it was an up-front listing price, and then they got a percentage after the sale was completed. Seems as though I didn't read all the verbiage well, for I wasn't expecting all of that. I sold a ported intake manifold for a small block 9.5" deck height Ford for roughly $450.00, which I was happy about, and by the time it was all said and done, I think EBay got me for $40 or $50. :wall:

You pay only an Insertion Fee and a Transaction Services Fee to list a vehicle on eBay Motors. The Transaction Services Fee is charged when the first bid is made or your reserve price is met. There is no additional fee charged after the vehicle is sold. eBay Motors vehicle listings are those within the Passenger Vehicles, Motorcycles, Powersports and Other Vehicles categories.

    Insertion and Transaction Service Fee

Category Insertion Fee Transaction Services Fee

    Passenger $40.00 $40.00

    Motorcycles $30.00 $30.00

    Powersports $30.00 $30.00

    Pocket Bikes $3.00 $3.00

    Other $40.00 $40.00

Parts and Accessories Same as eBay.com Insertion Fees

Note: For pricing information on Buy It Now, 10-day listings, or scheduled listings, please refer to the Optional Feature Fees section on this page.

You will not be charged a Transaction Services Fee if:

There were no bids on your item.

There were no bids that met the reserve price on your reserve price listing.

Otherwise you will be charged a Transaction Services Fee, whether or not you carry out the sale with the buyer.

If it is really only $40-$50 that is cheaper than I thought. :bigthumb: They don't get the standard 3% or whatever it is like on all other auctions??? :dunno::

    Chuck,

That was $40-$50 on a manifold that sold for $450.00. It wasn't a lot of $$$ to list it, but they took a percentage on the "back end" that drove the total costs that high. If they took the same percentage on a car that sold for $30k+, or whatever dollar figure, that might be quite a big hit, ya know? Again, I haven't sold a vehicle on there, so I don't know if different rules apply. I'd read and re-read the selling fees/policies for selling vehicles on there.

its $40 flat fee, plus picture costs and whatever else special features you want. i've sold 3 on there. its not a bad deal, autotrader is more money, but can be put on for as long as it takes to sell. as far as that transaction services fee, not sure about that. that might be something new, the last one i sold was 5 months ago, it was $41 total with pics.

its actually $40 + $40. if it sells, you owe them $80. if it doesnt, you still owe them $40.

That still isn't that bad I guess. If he only pays $80 to sell a $36K car that is pretty cheap. :bigthumb:
