What is the best CB shop to get my CB radio modded at. Its a older model(side mic) cobra 25 classic with weather channels. I basically want blue jewel knobs and channel selector along with more wattage.

Im sure steved will know and chime in

    Thanks

I would say send it up here to my tech. For some $$$ he can get that thing doing around 40 watts output. I have one that is doing around that much right now, its going in my Chevy when I get it up going again.

I have three shops I trust, the Rhino in New Mexico (Exit 80 off I40), Twelve-Volt in Pa (Exit 29 off I80), and my favorite is the 222 CB Shop (Papa Bear) here in Reading, PA off Route 222 north.

The 222 shop is the one who got my 4600 to swing 230+ watts when everyone else brags 205 watts. I only recently started using him (last two years) and most likely, he'll be the only one who get's my money.

RadioActiveRadios(.com) is the best, But they prolly won't work on a cobra.

    Try 1StopElectronics(.com)

The most your gonna get out of that 25 is prolly gonna be around 9w RMS.

They are also a bunch of arrogant {expletive}y fools...I tried to deal with them and they came off very bad...sorry, for the price they ask, they should be kissing your a$$ not treating you like a second class person.

So the "best" shop is an opinion thing.

shipping to the new england area wouldnt be worth it to me. does the rhino in new mexico have a wedsite? Since the cobra 25 has a weather channel it no longer has a rf gain, does this mean that RF gain is always on full output? and dynamike only increases the sound of your voice more to others correct? Im my old radio didnt have dynamic or weather channels.

What do yall think about claysradioshop.com?

    Thanks

I don't think the Rhino has a website...I'll see if I can find his contact info. You should be able to find a shop a little more local to you down there...ask a truck driver (or several over a week's time) and see who they recommend locally. I have heard of clay's, but I cannot remember from where.

Yes the RF is probably maxed (or close to it), the RF Gain would be controlled internally...a technician could adjust it up and down to make it "more" sensitive...you control the noise with the squelch correct?

The Mic Gain (dynamic) controls you modulation IIRC. But on the other end you will get louder as you turn the knob up...to a point, after that it may squeal...talkback is really the only way to tell. I think they told me to run about 11 o'clock on the dial on my Cobra29??

So are the weather channels even worth it or should i have stuck to the RF gain knob with the weather channels. Clays is out of texas, thats why im considering them, also i think they ship the radio back for free.

I wouldn't know how to live without an RF gain anymore...I don't even touch the squelch on my rig.

I agree with you there, but they do some damn good work for a public shop.

But for me I do my own radio work.
