Just completed the drivers side with new upper and lower Ball joints, new axle u-joints and new hub w/brg. After I put the wheel back on I noted slight play when pushing/pulling on the top of the wheel.
Is this normal?
I did everything IAW http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech/hub.php
There should be no play in the hub. Check all the bolts to make sure they're torqued down right. I know that hub nut takes quite a bit to tighten down to the proper torque (175ft/lbs i think?). Might be play in the new ball joints if they're not tight as well.
Hub nut should be at 175 ft/lbs, and have someone move the wheel and see what is moving, if you can move it back and forth pulling from the top and bottom then your hub is probably shot, I wouldn't drive it much if at all.
BTW if you have ABS be ready to dish out 300 bucks for a new one, go to NAPA they will at least give you a life time warrenty on it.
thanks
went back over it and torqued it with the floor-jack under the knuckle
the play is gone
