Okay I think I'm looking in the right place for my orifice tube, but it sure as hell ain't there. Here's a pic of where I'm looking:

It's in the hose coming from the bottom side of the condenser, which is on the left hand side. It doesn't look like the orifice tube could fit in the hose coming from the top of the condenser, so I'm kinda stumped. Am I being retarded or did someone just forget to put an orifice tube in last time? Perhaps that's the reason my A/C compressor {expletive} itself?

it should be down in there. if you look and dont see anything, then its not there. it could be why the compressor died as it was not there to filter the particle (though the particles come from the compressor that is going out anyway) but it would also not let you system operate at its best efficiency since there would be minimal pressure drop and thus little refrigerant cooling

Hmmm... ok. I guess I'll just toss the new one in then. I've replaced my compressor and accumulator, so I think I'll be good to go after this. It did seem like the air was a TINY bit cooler than the air outside before, so your explanation makes sense.

Thanks for the quick reply Boss Thumbs Up!

Haha so I know this is quite awhile later, but here's the deal... I finally got around to trying it again.

The orifice tube won't fit in there. It fits in the lower portion of the line, but the 2 sides won't couple if it's in there. The only other thing I can think of is maybe it's supposed to go further up the line (i.e. where the line goes into the firewall?). Also, there's this metallic duct tape around a portion of that line. There's squishy something inside the tape, but I don't feel a coupling in there that I could slide the orifice tube into. Here's a pic of the taped area. It's on the passenger side of the engine bay, right above where the air intake tube crosses over from the fender to the air box.

Any ideas? Could I have an aftermarket condenser and need a different orifice tube maybe? Dunno

Some bad news for ya. This is from alldata for my 98

Fixed Orifice Tube
The fixed orifice tube is installed in the liquid line between the outlet of the condenser and the inlet of the evaporator. The fixed orifice tube is only serviced as an integral part of the liquid line.

The fixed orifice tube cannot be repaired and, if faulty or plugged, the liquid line assembly must be replaced.

Hmmmm.... I'll check into it at the dealership tomorrow I guess. If the 98s are identical to the 99s in that respect, then the dealership I got the orifice tube from obviously gave me a part that they should've known wasn't for my truck. Twak Thanks man!
