I just bought a 2006 crew cab frontier 4x4. it was a repo at my credit union, the owner blew up the motor so the credit union put a 36,000 mile motor in the truck from a 07 i believe. the truck had 85,000 miles on odometer, so i figured pretty good deal with new motor in it. only problem with the truck is that the previous owner welded the spider gears in the truck and its eating up the rear tires. i put new good year tracker tires on it (only because they were cheap and i knew rear end was gonna eat them up) in jan. and their almost slick after 7 months. im not agaist the welding of spider gears on a weekend warrior, but a daily driver is not too smart.when i bought the truck i didnt realise how hard it was going to be to fix the rear end (or should i say exspensive). nissan put a dana 44 rear end in most trucks in 06, but not this one. i have a dana 40. after finding out that you can only buy the whole rear end from nissan (@ $1600) and not being able to find one in salvage yard. i figured if i could find an older model nissan with 3:56 gears i would do a rear end swap and not worry about if its a dana 40 or not. anyone know what older year model nissans would have this gear ratio? or if anyone has any other ideas im up for suggestions...thanks for any help.

I thought Titans had the Dana 44-sourced rear. The Frontier is a smaller truck, no?
Why not just get an axle assembly from a wrecked truck? You need to look harder. There are plenty of wrecked vehicles out there. A Google search netted me 20+ complete differential/axle assemblies from $250.00 (used) - $1,400.00 new.

the closest axle i found around my area is in alababma, and thats several hundred miles away, and as far as the dana 44 in titan i dont know, im going off info. supplied to me by the nissan dealership and they say the dana 44 is standard except in a few models that have the dana 40 which im so unlucky to have due to the hard time of finding replacement....
