I just rebuilt the engine on my '99 Dodge manual 5.2l ram 1500, started it for the first time tonight.
Heres the details on the work done to it.
Swapped from a '99 5.2 to the rebuilt '99 5.9
MSD Ignition
8.5mm Plug Wires
480 lift cam
jba headers
new lifters(cant remember the brand off the top of my head)
valve springs
the reinforced mopar heads
160 degree thermostat
Cat back flowmaster exhaust
360 flywheel
High flow oil pump
New water pump
New Timing Chain
I got the engine from a salvage yard, and did all the work myself, it starts, it runs, but it runs really rough, theres kind of a popping sound, and theres a lot of valve train noise. I ran it up for a few minutes, and it was dumping a lot of raw fuel into the exhaust.
I primed the oil pump, oiled the valve train, checked the firing order, and I have compression, and oil pressure.
What am I forgetting? I want this working tonight!

Rick
Yes, I have both computers, I've swapped them back and forth, no luck.
I'll try again, I just pulled the distributor, and made sure the gear was aligned correctly, it was one tooth off, but there is no difference, and havent swapped back to the 5.9 computer.
swapped computers, no difference

Ok, well I dont have a scanner, so I'm going to adjust it by hand, and see what happens
ok, timings on, but erratic, it shows dead on part of the time, but jumps, 5-15 degrees.
Could it be the crankshaft position sensor?
I'm using the one off the 5.2, but the mount broke, so I epoxied it, and put it back.

Like Rick said, you'll need to hook up a DRB scan tool and get the fuel sync right. The comp controls the timing, turning the dist. sets the fuel sync.
