What kind of info are you looking for on the NP208?

The NP208 is a fixed yoke front and a slip yoke rear, chain driven, aluminum case with an exceptionally low gearings of 1.96 to 1, I believe.

I am currently in the process of making a hybrid 208 by taking the rear half of a Dodge 208D with a fixed yoke and matching it to the front Chevy 208C. This will eliminate the troublesome slip yoke on the rear, which can leave you stranded on the trail if it fails. I will also be installing a 241 chain as it is stronger than the 208, and using the Dodge synchronizer to ease shifting on the fly. These changes will make the strongest 208 available.

If you need some links to the 208, let me know, I will provide them.

Just a friendly word, when asking for help, be as descriptive as possible so we know how to target what you're aiming for.

My grandfather was wanting this truck for around town, dump runs and such.He was wondering if the lock out hubs( that are on it now) are orignal or if they were the full time hubs from the factory. Niether one of us know anything about the 208. for some reason he is not a big fan of the full time t-cases or the full time hubs. He will leave it stock and I doubt it will see any offroad use at all.

Hi,

It would be impossible to tell if the lockout hubs are original without some pictures. If the truck is just going to be used for home use/dump runs, then the 208 will be more than fine. Just make sure that you maintain the ATF fluid in her, and look for any type of leaks around the slip yoke opening or the front drive shaft opening. The seals are easy to pop out and replace.

Post up some pictures and that will definitely help us, help you.

if it has a 208 then its not full time

the 203 is the only full time

if it has manual lockouts then the factory ones will be plastic dial warn units(but they don't say warn on them)

the 70's trucks had spicer lockouts

and the early-mid 80's trucks had an optional auto locking hub which would have a 4x4 decal on the center of the lockout

the older manual lockouts will bolt right in if it is an auto lockout now, but warn premium ones are the way to go

the only ones i had a run in with were on a old cj5 jeep, and they have held up to a big block with 35's and a transbrake

i don't remember hearing anything bad about them other than they were hard to get replacement parts before mm bought them and started remaking them
