funny noises from t-case
ok ever since i went wheeling in the jeep in oct ... i have been getting funny noises when driving ... kinda sounds like .... well a bike chain free wheeling

i kinda chalked it up to the fact that i took out the carpet the day before the wheeling trip ... never drove the jeep till i got to rausch .... and when i got home i did not bother to put the carpet back in ... kinda figured it was noise that was always there but could not hear it

well today was the first time i had the jeep in 4 wheel drive and in low range its making a loud wine ... i have not had it in high range yet to see if its making noise in that gear ....

think the chain is stretched ... jeep has about 108k on it and as far as i can tell if it was ever wheeled before i got it it wasn't on rocks maybe some mud, but by how clean things like the top side of the fuel tank was i dont think it was ever buried

RE: funny noises from t-case
My friend had a stretched chain in his rubicon...

His would, in 4x4 and 4lo, bind up and let go w/ a loud knock.

He could be sitting in the driveway, give the jeep gas and the suspension would load up from the torque and then let go and the thing would start moving, this would happen randomly and if you put your hand on the case while on jackstands and him giving it gas you could feel a loud knock on the thing in addition to the audible one...Dealership warrentied it and I got the case since his friend installed it at the shop and gave me the old one.. took the thing appart and you could take the chain and move it about an inch/1.5" in and out.. it was probably skipping on the sprockets.

MIke.
Clicking could also be a CV going bad.. mine did that right before it being making a horrible grinding noise... which I drove on for about year before changing haha.

RE: funny noises from t-case
I've had a similar sound coming from somewhere under the truck for about 2 years. I call it my tankdrive because thats what it sounds like. The treads of a tank. I thought it was the t-case also but got a good deal off of scott for his t-case out of big bird and changed mine out to his but I still had the sound. I've done a complete rebuild of my truck including all the driveline, axles, driveshafts, etc., everything except the tranny and still get the same noise. It never seemed to bind but the noise is constant in 4wd. I've been living with it for over 2 years and have been waiting for something to give up the ghost but so far it's held up with no problems at all...Dunno
