+1 on checking your plenum gasket. Also lousy winter fuel could be a factor. My 01' gets 10.5mpg city no matter how I drive it. Winter months 9.5 and thats with a fresh tune up. Just my .02....................170bcuda
Its inbetween your intake and block. These 2nd generation trucks are known for having them go out sooner or later. ALOT has been covered on this site about them. For starters you can take your air cleaner off and shine a flashlight down your throttle body and see if there is oil build up down there. Common signs of plenum being shot is loss of power, poor gas milage, oil low but yet not leaking out of truck. etc. That search button is gunna be your best friend on this subject.
I would go ahead and replace it anyways, its gunna have to be done in the future. Thats an almost guarentee.

ill look into it but i dont know if its that because usually i can just dump a bottle of fuel injector cleaner into the gas tank with a full tank of gas and it will take care of the fuel consumption problem until the tank of gas with the fuel injector cleaner is empty again then ill fill the truck up with gas with out the injector cleaner and i will have the problem again.
Clogged cat. convertor, bad fuel, plenum gone south, bad sensors, plugs/wires bad, etc. There are alot of different possibilities. Search a little bit, and see if you can find anything else.
