Where to get those brittle plastic vacuum lines?
Ok so today i was trying to change my plenum gasket because i believe it is shot. It idles rough at times and the rpms fluctuate when im driving too. I looked down into the throttle body and i can see some oil inside of the intake manifold, this is what led me to believe my plenum gasket is gone. So i thought i had removed all of the bolt on the intake manifold and was able to pry the front of it up slightly, about 1/8 - 1/4 inch, but then i noticed there were two more bolts in the back. As i was trying to remove those i accidentally cracked one and broke another one of those really brittle plastic vacuum lines that run along the firewall. This freaked me out so i reasembled everything to make sure my truck would still run. Thankfully it does. Where can i get these little plastic lines? What are they for? Does anyone have any tips to help me repair my truck? Its a 95 ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9. I tried my a/c and it seems to function correctly. The 4x4 doesnt work right now because the vacumm lines are busted under the truck as well. What else could these go to? Sorry for such a long write up. Just tryin to explain everything. Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks

I broke one of these and replaced that section with a rubber vacuum hose. Much better option imo. I'm not sure why they even used that crappy plastic in the first place. I'd recommend just putting a rubber tube in where the line is broken.

Thanks for yall's input. Powerwagon, do you recall the size line that you bought and about how much you got.

they have them at autozone. i got mine from there. they come in a package with like 2 feet of the small tubing. but i just used a small rubber hose connector to reconnect the tube. didnt feel like replacing the whole line.

im sure u can find them in autozone.... my truck also has rough idle and the rpms also fluctuate... i cleaned the throttle body not too long ago and did notice that my gasket was pretty worn out but i didn't think much of it. do u think i might have the same problem?

i had a pretty rough idle before i did my plenum gasket. it fluctuated from 700-900 rpm. i also fixed the small broken vacuum line on the passenger side the same time i did the plenum repair. i would suggest going with the Hughes or APS Precision plenum kit and while everything is apart look for any broken or damaged vacuum lines.

btw i went with the APS Precision plenum kit, great product.

Yah i bet it probably is the same problem. Ive seen several threads on this site about the plenum gasket failing in our trucks so it seems to be something that is going to happen eventually. Try looking down into your throttle body with a flashlight. Ive read that if you see oil in the bottom of the intake manifold its probably the plenum gasket. Im gunna have a mechanic fix my truck up right this weekend so i should be able to tell if it made some sort of a difference by next week.
