Well, Recently we have been talking about my wife getting an SUV since im making more money, and she is driving a lot on the highway, I Would like her to be safe and in a car people can see better..
Since she has been rear ended three times in her beetle, we decided to get an SUV..
We picked out a couple Used suvs..
1. 05-07 Honda Element 16-20k
2. 06-07 Toyota 4runner 20-29k
3. 05-06 Jeep liberty CRD 18-24k
Well, We decided that the element was in our price range, and the nicest for what we needed and she liked it, so we went to 4 dealerships..
Having a trade in of a 2000 VW beetle with 50k on it, we figure we will be able to get our pay off of $9000.00, since most are going for about $10-11k here.. We tell the sales man that that is what we want, our payoff... Easy as that right? We would have taken $7-8k if they even would have offered it..lol
Well the sales men would come back and only wanted to give us $3-4k for it! and with a smile like we were getting a real special deal!!
I was up-hauled, I just bought a 1988 chevy for $3k! lol, The blue book value is $6-7k on trade, and 10-$11k on retail!! 8k on private!
The Beetle has NO body dammage, and runs great, looks good, and has a clean record because I fixed it myself after the collisions.. The thing is flawless besides one small plastic vent on the inside of the car having a fin messed up. Hell the thing has rims & tires that are worth 3k.. And the other mods on it.. (Not that I was looking for any credit for them)..
The used car market must be trash, because that car is not worth no $3-4k..
We decided to keep the car for now, and save up for the next 6 months, and buy one private cash..
The real kicker was the used 06 element was $23k, and we walked over to the new honda dealer while they made us wait, and they were $21k new for an 08 with the same color, and interior package!!! We told them this and they didnt get it..lol, They said we were lying!
Well don't give up because of one dealership! Go around and tell them you want KBB value on it. List it in the classifieds, AutoTrader, etc... and see what happens.
Wait, what? Jordan, a Honda Element? I'm not even sure what to say. That is 2nd only to the Prius for least tastefully designed vehicle in the U.S. Seriously, its one of the few cars I can park next to that makes my neon look stylish! *LOL* Doesn't she want like, maybe a Saturn Vue Redline or something? Maybe even a Dodge Magnum?
Just bustin' your stones man, sorry to hear the dealer tried to bend you over. They do that, it's kinda their thing. Maybe you can sell the bug privately and get closer to what it's really worth.

That is what I would do and always have done. You'll get more money out of a car by selling it yourself than you'll ever get a dealership to "give" you for it on trade-in. If you do get a dealership to "give" you more for it than you could sell it for, they're just f*cking you on the other side of the deal (in the financing or price of the car you're buying...most likely the financing).

I thought the same thing until I sat in one, for the first time, about 5 years ago, while at the Honda dealership. Sitting in one and realizing how useful they are/could be changed my opinion, to a degree, on their outside asthetics.
I'm not saying they're the best looking vehicle on the road, but all things considered, with the convenience they provide (with respect to the layout of the interiors and what all you can put in one and tote around in one), I think the overall usefulness of an Element outshines the shortcomings it may or may not have regarding its physical appearance.
i can just imagine it after wicked customs gets done modding it ... it will be homoriffic....
just busting your balls man dealers suck but its how they stay in buisness if they gave ya what its really worth they wouldnt be able to make $$$ on it when they resell it.. i have a friend who has a dealership and he told me he makes between 1500 - 2500 on a used car..
