Question Upgrading gears on my 97 Ram?
Hey there, long time lurker, first time registered poster.
I have a 97 Ram 1500 sport 4x4 with the 360ci. I love my truck!
I am running 33's with a 3" lift. I have no plans on ever going any bigger on lift or tires.
I have some extra cash and think its time to upgrade my gears to 4.11's and add a truetrac in the rear. I don't need a locker, I mostly pound pavementRolleyes so a Detroit locker is out of the question for my truck. The truetrac will be fineCool
Now I have a question for you seasoned off roaders, I have been putting together a "I need/want list" together on the PORC website.

The list goes something like this:

http://www.performanceoffroadcenter.com/...ts_id=2333

http://www.performanceoffroadcenter.com/...ts_id=6446

Is this the correct gears for my front?
http://www.performanceoffroadcenter.com/...=3125{9}46

http://www.performanceoffroadcenter.com/...=2309{9}46

http://www.performanceoffroadcenter.com/...ts_id=1417

Is this the right carrier? Confused
http://www.performanceoffroadcenter.com/...cts_id=823 Wrong carrier.Tongue

EDIT: This is the correct carrier for my application, thanks Mike. Thumbs Up!

Thanks guys for any help you can give, advice will be appreciated as well.Cool I am using the search button and also coming up with some great info too.Cool

RE: Upgrading gears on my 97 Ram?
No, thats the wrong carrier... you need 3.92 and up(numerically lower)

You can skip on the carrier and just get THICK dana 44 gear... it does the same thing as a differnet carrier but saves you $75 bucks.
... and if you buy from there go on pirate4x4 and talk to the guy over there.. he will give you a 5% discount for being a memeber... or at least they did for me the two times I ordered from them.

MIke.

Thank you MikeCool
Is this what you mean by thick gear so I can forget about the carrier?

I read an earlier post from you that suggested joining Pirate for the deal, so I did Big Grin I will PM PORC over there and see if I can snag a better deal.

Close...

You can't use "TJ rubicon" gears in what I like to call "normal" dana 44s.... the dana 44s that come in the TJ rubicons use 7/16" mounting bolts on the ring gear as opposed to 3/8" bolts that our dana 44s have(and the rest of them as far as I know)... which I think is retarded since the bolts don't hold any force other than the gear to the carrier.. the friction between those two is what holds all the force.... but anyways..

When you PM PORC, just tell him you want "dana 44 standard cut THICK gear, ratio 4.11"

MIke.

Thanks again MikeCool I will make sure just to ask them for the thick cut gears for the dana 44 that come with the Dodge Ram (3/8" bolt).

RE: Upgrading gears on my 97 Ram?
Mike, they dont have the PORC house brand thick gear. They only have the YUKON thick gear. I sent them an email to make sure it is the right one http://www.performanceoffroadcenter.com/...ts_id=2394
This is from the Yukon website. http://www.yukongear.com/ProductDetails....rodID=3311

I changed my mind on the 4.11's, Im going 4.56'sCool

Its $233 for the thick yukon gear.
Or I can go $114 for the regular gear and $54.99 for the carrier=$168.99
The PORC gears look like there the spicer brand R&P's.

CoolCoolCool

RE: Upgrading gears on my 97 Ram?
Yes, for the front Dana 44 you need the thick gear in whatever size you want.

If you cant find the thick gear, you can use a regular gear, but you will need a new carrier.
