The word Redneck
1. that of the working class Southerner, is generally believed to derive from individuals having a red neck caused by working outdoors in the sunlight over the course of their lifetime.
2. Southern comedian Jeff Foxworthy defines "redneck" as "a glorious absence of sophistication," stating "that we are all guilty of it at one time or another."

I'd have to say jeff is right at one time or other we have all been a redneck in our life. I.ve been there and done it. lol ,You can call me a redneck all day.

The only reason i did this is because some get mad about being called it and some misuse it but its only a word.

RE: The word Redneck
Actually the term "redneck" was started because the coal miners at the battle of Blair Mountain wore red bandannas around their necks.

But yeah... Jeff's interpretation is pretty accurate too.

RE: The word Redneck
What is a Redneck?
Today, many elitists look down upon what they call Rednecks. They see them as bible-thumping, gun toting, beer swilling, family humping, cigarette smoking NASCAR fans whose wives out grew their jea... Today, many elitists look down upon what they call Rednecks. They see them as bible-thumping, gun toting, beer swilling, family humping, cigarette smoking NASCAR fans whose wives out grew their jeans years ago yet they still wear them and with short tops to give us the "muffin top" look.
A possible source of the term redneck comes from The West Virginia Coal Miners March or the Battle of Blair Mountain when coal miners wore red bandannas around their necks to identify themselves as seeking the opportunity to unionize. This was a bloody battle that pitted the abused, disenfranchised coal miners against Big Coal backed by the US Army.
Another contributing theory derives the term from such individuals having a red neck caused by working outdoors in the sunlight over the course of their lifetime. The effect of decades of direct sunlight on the exposed skin of the back of the neck not only reddens fair skin, but renders it leathery and tough, and typically very wrinkled and spotted by late middle age.
Similarly, some historians claim that the term redneck originated in 17th century Virginia, because fair-skinned unfree labourers were sunburnt while tending plantation crops. (Yes, there were white slaves in the colonies BEFORE there were black ones)
Regardless of the etymology, Redneck is a name to be proud of.

RE: The word Redneck
This thread is stupid and should be deleted. I thought i'd throw in my 2 cents in the posts above and that would be the end of it. But this looks like it might turn into a long thread of self justifying stOOpidness. Nothing against people and their proud redneck ways. I would fall in the same category. But a post like this with all newer members is what gives you guys a bad name. Contributing garbage like this. This topic would be better saved for a drunken discussion amongst friends around a bonfire.

I don't mean to offend anyone. I am purely trying to offer some good medicine to newer of sort members. And believe me there are many brothel posts that discuss some ridiculous topics but this one seemed like someone got butt hurt from a comment on myspace and cried on here about it. Maybe it's just late and I am in a stupid mood. So don't take anything too much to heart right now Tongue

RE: The word Redneck
the reason i put this on here is because of a couple post on here of people fighting about being called a redneck that is why, so i dont think it is wrong im just tring to make a point and let them know it is just a word. so take it as it is
This is one of the post im talking about.
The Brilliance of Removing Emissions Equipment, or "Do I have to have a Cat?

and some things i have read is just telling me one thing if you own a dodge dont even ask because if you do a search every thing on a dodge has been coverd to the full. so dont judge im not a kid and some kids know more then me ,just because the oldtimers have done it that dont mean that we dont need the help. boss u can take this off if you want but thats how i feel i dont want enemies but some older ones act like there young.
