Rockwells V.s One Tons

OK I know this might be stupid, but I want your opinions. As everyone knows, rockwells can be expensive, but if you have to money and time would you guys just go the one ton route or rockwells? Parts are cheaper for one tons, and easier to replace, but on the other hand rockwells are a damn beefy axle. I was told that the axle shafts are actually the same size in the Dana 60 as the rockwells, not sure how true it is but that's what the guy at the military surplus place told me. Well let me know what you guys think, want to get opinions before I start spending money.

well, they are not called 2.5 ton axles for nothin!

however, they are big and require tall tires to deal with the 6.72 ratio they have and good amount of lift to clear the top loader

and yes, rockwells spline count suck while we're at it.

If you're going 42's or less and not seeing more than 1,000lb/ft or 500HP you should be clean on 1-tons unless your truck is a heavy as hell beast.

I know the rockwells are beefy, I keep seeing them here everyday when I walk by the Army's trucks. I also keep thinking on how I could get a set off and mail them home. Haha. Anyways, but to be practical I don't want to spend all this money on them if I really only need to get one tons. But on the other hand the rocks would be nice. I'm definitely not going to be pushing over 500hp and 1,000 ft lbs of torque. It is a built 302 but I doubt it will even be doing close to that. Well keep the suggestions flowing. I appreciate it.

I am most likely going to run 44" tires but the thought of putting 49's on has crossed my mind.

Get Rocks. (assuming you are wheelin). You'll need good stuff in your 60, (CTMs, Alloys, upgraded knuckles) and probably some upgrades on the rear too, if you are running a fullsize. Also, you likely will have enough lift and tire to work with them.

I on the hand like my one tons, but I am planning on staying sub 44".

I won't be running any 44's on these 1-tons, either. I vote rockwells, because I know that if I was planning on 44's or bigger I'd need to upgrade knuckles, hubs, outers, inners, U-joints, locker, Yoke, etc. Basically everything.

Sounds like I should go with the rocks. I appreciate all of your input. I guess when it comes down to it, either way it's going to be a hefty investment. I have found some good deals on the brake set up and lockers for the rocks, and will hopefully be able to pick them up when I get down to florida when I get home from overseas. Now how big should I go? 44's or 49's. I wheel pretty hard, and as often as I can. I am not afraid to beat up on the truck, that would be boring to not have to spend money and fix things, haha. But yall know how it is. I just want to be big enough to make some nice ruts so that everyone else gets stuck. I was thinking 44 inch boggers. I have had a great experience with the boggers where I am. Anyone have Iroks? How do they perform in the mud and snow?
