Rear Disc Brakes - 4Runner

Ok I've been toying with the idea of rear disc brakes for my 4Runner since my rear ABS went out. Does anybody know if this is possible to do - is there a kitout there of some sort? MUCHADO, I checked out marlincrawler but I dont see any kit...

I've also heard that disc brakes add more drag. I wonder how much more drag if it's gonna be noticable or not.

I just ordered a conversion for my dodge from TSM Manufacturing. They cost less than what EGR wanted for a D70 conversion. http://www.tsmmfg.com/2494.htm for the toyota conversion.

hey sherri... havent talked you in awhile anyways yea i put rear discs and yarded out my abs when i put the 60 in and now i can lock the rear brakes up and i bypassed the propotioning valve aswell i noticed a big difference over drums and their easier to maintain! but i put 2000 ford explorer rear discs on mine it looks like those kits are using gm calipers which work just as good from what im told.

Theres a site i believe its frontrangeoffroad.com or something, just google it and it will come up. They sell a disk brake and full floating rear kit. And http://www.4x4wire.com has got a write up on the install of the kit.

What is the benefit of removing the proportioning valve?

more braking power.. the proportioning valve senses when you have a load and gives more braking power to the rear when more load is on your vehicle.. if you toss the proportioning valve, you will have more powerful brakes.. I'm going to do this on mine, just haven't gotten around to doing it. Nate told me about it and said he's had great improvements in braking since. Thumbs Up!

well maybe I should just try and fix my rear ABS then because I want more powerful braking but I dont want to lock up the brakes. I can do that right now. Our island is not flat, there's many hills so when I try to slow down on the rear locks up and the back tries to come around.
