Figured I would do a progress thread to show just what the Yota began as... CRoberts and I are probably the only two that can fully appreciate it because we worked first hand with just how bad it was..
Started life as this pile of booty connected parts with a nice fresh and {expletive}ty bug encrusted blue paint job.
1985 Toyota SR5 4 Runner. Chris bought it from someone on Pirate that had some SWEET 'chosen' pics on Pirate.. was located in VA and was asking like 4 grand for it. From the PICTURES it looked very nice. When it get's trailered up to PA for Chris to buy it, we get our first good look at the HORRIBLE WAVEY and every known insect in VA encrusted paint. From there it goes downhill quickly.. I said Chris, don't give this joker more than a grand for it in addition to the deposit you already gave him. Guy was NOT happy, but what could he expect ?? it WAS DUCT TAPED together !
Chris closed the deal and so Onwards.....
To get it "decently in shape" I gutted it for Chris one day while he was at work. This had some VERY nice finds including but not limited to hay, pea{expletive} feathers, coins, paperclips, a barbie shoe, pine needles, and other {expletive} you find when gutting a 14 year old rig.
So here starts the buildup of Chris' then family wheeler project.
Wheels are from BADASS01RAM's first Project K5 that Chris, Joe, Jeff, and myself worked to build.
Tires came from BigRed (aka HIHOSilver)
After a LONG summer of a ton of $$$$ rig repairs on the Dodge for Chris something had to go and so I bartered/bought this project from him when I decided to get out from under the yellow money pit.
Glennyizm of the project starts here:
Tore it all apart to start learning about what I had....
So we STUFFED it into Chris' one garage and set about working on the front end.. got the shock mounts in, the spare rebuilt and trussed axle all back together and then up under the green pig...
I didn't get to the 4.3 yet ! That is part of something called PROGRESS DIPPY !!!!
Well after just one scentence, Chris convinced me that the POPULAR swap for the weezing albiet sound and durable, yet under powered 22RE was a good 'ol Chevy Vortec 4.3L.
That was music to my ears cause I love those suckers and they move like a scalded cat when done up right.
Sooooo... OUT with the working 22RE and plans for the Vortec came to fruit.
Motor out and backed out of garage awaiting me to locate a Vortec.
On Ebay all day most everyday... Chris finds a Vortec out in the Allegheny mountains of PA.
I talked the guy into motor, tanny, t-case, computer, and radiator along with anything else I wanted all for $450.
So we go in the cold to go pull my (1st) Vortec.
Get it home and I am out there in the sleet and snow in the yota engine bay cleaning house of all junk toy engine parts...
