New truck for me
After a long search, I finally came across a truck that made me happy; right in the next town over of all places. It's a 1996 GMC Sierra SLT with an extended cab, 110K, and a ton of options. It has a 5.7 Vortec with an auto trans and a towing package which includes a 3:73 gear, limited slip differential, and a transmission cooler.
Yes, I know It's only a 2 wheel drive but in reality that's all I need. I have a ton of plans for this truck including free flowing catalytic converters, exhaust, and shortie headers with a nice cold air intake and a computer tune. I'm selling 2 vehicles to pay for this; so in the end I'll have about 2,500 dollars left over to play with for mods, fixes, and things of that nature.
The primary color is Dark Adriatic Blue metallic and it has grey cloth and trim inside. I need to so some slight rust repair work at the bottom lips of the doors but other than that, it's pretty cherry. Oh, the cap is coming off pronto. I hate caps.
given your autobody background, if you have perforation rust and dont feel like patching, C4C is your friend. there are a ton of these body style trucks at the local junkyards. the Summit PnP has alot, including trucks, burbs, and Tahoes. Their Hammond yard does as well. U-Pullit had a decent amount as well.

I've been to the Summit yard before, but not in a long time. The doors aren't that bad, just the bottom lip and the bottoms of the cab have a few bubbles starting. Worst case scenario I will re-skin just the bottoms.
These photos kind of suck. I haven't taken any pics of the truck myself yet; these were sent to me by the fromer owner in an email.
I'm very pleased with it. It has very nice and hard to find factory GMC chrome rally wheels on it. I am the 3rd owner; the guy I bought it off of basically used it as a car. He is a Cook County sheriff and he took really good care of the truck. There are almost no scratches in the bed. I will probably do a build up thread on it in the 2WD section shortly.
