I have a Dana 60, 30 spline, full float in a piece of equipment. Some how the spider gear teeth got damaged and I managed to break an axle. I'm trying to install a Lock-Right in place of some damaged spider gears. Everything fits correctly, but I can't get the cross shaft to slide in. The shaft is hitting the spacers. Flipping the spacers over, improves the fit, but the shaft still doesn't clear. I called Richmond gear this morning and the guy tried to read the installation manual back to me. He didn't know what he was talking about. He said he'd have "tech" call me back. Not getting a call back, I called a second time and this guy said that Richmond gear got bought out this morning and they let all the Richmond gear staff go. Nobody knows how to install the differential or what may be wrong. I'm hoping there is somebody on this forum that's well versed with the units.
I haven't install one of these for awhile now... but I've done several.
It sounds like the spacers are not staying in place. This is a common issue. I usually had to put some sticky grease on the spaces so they would stay in place. Then you can put the pin in. When the spaces slide even a hair out of place, then pin will hit them.
If this is the axel with those c-clips, then after you put the c-clips in place you need to give the axel a slight tug outwards away from the truck to seat the axel and get the clearance for the lock-rite spaces.
No C-clips as this is a full float 60. Besides, I'm trying to do this on a bench. I had to pull the diff to get the axle stub pulled out of the carrier. I have the spacers very well greased, but maybe they are falling back just a little bit. We're supposed to keep the hardened washer on the outside of the gears, right? If those washers were removed, the shaft would drop in.
