NV3500 to NV4500 swap???

Is it possible to swap a NV3500 5spd (thats what I have now) for a 5spd out of a 2500/3500 truck with a NV4500?

Would this be a pretty much bolt up swap or are they different lengths or bolt patterns? Has anyone done this lately?

The reason I would even be thinking about this is because I already swapped in D60's and 5.13's. I am about to swap out the t-case for a JB conversions NV231HD (the one with 32 spine output shaft and 6 planetary gear and wider chain set up). I will also have a new rear driveshaft with 1350 CV and 1410 axle joints.

So really the last peice to upgrade drivetrain wise is the tranny. Or do you think this is really not needed at all and the NV3500 will hold up just fine?

I'd love to know this too, i would grab at a chance to put a stick in my 95' and get rid of my 46RH. But i dont know either if that conversion is possible.

I do know there are quite a few guys that have taken out their auto trannies and swapped in manuals. There are quite a few posts on that I found while searching.

The question I had was can I upgrade my 1/2 ton 5spd to a 3/4 ton 5spd relatively easy. there are a couple posts I found about this very question, but none of them had any good answers.

Hmmm...well if i was a betting man, i'd imagine the bell housing would just bolt up to your engine. I don't see why chrysler wouldn't make it simple, look at the 318 and 360. I'd imagine they make thier mans trannies like that too. Thumbs Up! ...the mysteries of life

im on NV3500 #3 in my ram. that may have something to do with my life long love affair with the skinny pedal however. This latest rebuild on the other hand has had no clutch drops or 1st>R rocking incidents, and 3rd gear sounds like a box of rocks. No leaks, and i am using 16$ a qt Mopar NV3500 fluid.

NV4500 for the win.

From what I gather the NV3500 is a 2 piece tranny with an intergrated bell housing. the NV4500 is also steel, not aluminum like the 3500. I dont see why you couldnt use the 4500, you would have to get a bell housing from some where though. Probably someone like Advanced Adapters.

Yes Alpha is correct. The NV3500 is a two piece trans, with an integrated bellhousing. It is also an aluminum case. The Beefcake Nv4500 has a Steel case, and its bellhousing is removable. The 360 eqipped 2500 with 5spds used the Magnum bolt pattern on the 4500's, so that would be the ticket.

Im not 100%, but i do believe the Cummins trucks had a different bellhousing mounting pattern. Not sure if cummins had a special rear flywheel housing for the dodges, or if the transmission used a different bellhousing to bolt to the diesels.

It would be nice to know for those of us who love our gassers, that the diesel 4500 bellhousing was the same bolt pattern as the magnum series engines.

Any info on that?f

Also i do know that a company has a kit available for NV4500 swaps, i just cant remember off the top of my head if it was advance adaptors or another company that had them.

The v10 and cummins share the same bellhousing pattern. The magnum v8 is different

My NV3500 is holding my 42's no problem. Unless you really start snatching on it with really big tires, I dont see a problem. You will damage the puny little 231 before you really tear up a 3500

I done this swop already. You can find a nv4500 out of a 3/4 or 1ton truck that had a gas motor. or take the route i did buy a diesel nv4500 and swop it in. But you have to buy a new v8 bellhousing and main shaft. Your 231 t-case well bolt right up. Or a 203 or 205 or atlas or staks t-case.

And all dodges come with a 231h.d. With the wider chain. if not they would snap like twigs.

i went though 4 nv3500. 3 were covered by dodge 4 one i did the swop to a nv4500. make sure you get the quick shift for a nv4500 it help out alot. The 4500 doesnt like high reving rpm's. makes it hard to shift from 1st to 2nd. But 1st is granny. So ive allwas used 2rd to take off in.
