RE: Illinois repealing front plate and tint laws?
I just read about Virginia finally chopping their law on radar detectors. Its been on the books since the 70's when radar detectors came about. What a dumb law.
As for tint, i love it!!! And why in the hell do you need 2 tags? isnt one on the back good enough? seems like a waste to me.

The funny thing is even when this bill is passed, the plate and tag prices will remain the same; $78
That's funny because the state will probably save millions by not having to produce two plates for each vehicle

I bet you they have had it with writing tickets that end up getting dropped in court...
IDK about other states but here... all you need is a picture of your vehicle without tints or w/ a front plate, take it in and get your ticket waved... I can't recall how many tickets my friends have recived for not having a front plate... they'd take a picture w/ the plate on.. go to the courthouse get it waved and take their plate off.
As far as the tints go, there is some rule still in act that if you are getting new tints front and rear you can only do so much and that if you have factory tints you can only have so much on the front... its not all out limo tints if you want(at least thats what I understood)
If you wanted to know a stupid rule w/ plates that we have here.. my roommate has a G35 coupe and has a front plate on it that he rigged up w/o having to tap his bumper for bolt holes... he got a ticket the other day (in Chicago) for having his plate less than 12" from the ground... because apperently chicago has a 12" min height and suburbs have 6" (where he is orginally from) .... now thats a stupid rule... and he had to get a city sticker in order to get zoned street parking..
It is now legal to tint the front windows here. Some folks are working on the front plates but so far you still have to have them. the state police are opposed to removing the front plates

I bet a lot of people are going to abuse the front tint idea now. Like MikeG said you have to read closely into that article, you are only allowed something like 35% tint at the darkest in the front windows.
Now, how many people do you think are going to obey that? Once the word spreads everyone is going to go get 5%'s and ruin it for everybody else. I bet the police will have to perform more traffic stops on vehicles with tinted windows just to check if they are tinted within the limits of what the new law allows.

I have no idea. My best guess is that it's easier for police to read them(?) Maybe one of the officers on here will chime in about that.
The tint I can understand. In Illinois you DO NOT want to get out of your car if pulled over for a violation; you will be shot. So, since the police have to walk up to our cars, they want to see right away if you have a gun or if you're grabbing for something (weapon, mace, etc.). Tint obviously hinders that ability to see into the car.
I'll never forget when I got pulled over in Kentucky and was asked to step out of the car. I thought I was really in trouble! Usually around here that means you are taking a trip to the police station. I guess down south that's a common pratice
