Hey folks, That plastic trim on the top of my front bumper is light gray. The same piece on every other Ram I look at is black. When I wash the thing it turns black-ish and looks alot better. Are they all supposed to be black? Is there a way to get it back to black? Swap it out, or paint? Sand off the gray?
Oh, and bug deflectors suck. Now I have more touching up to do.
It's a 1998 2500 4x4 if ya need to know the specs.
Ive had OK luck using armor all on faded black pieces to bring back some color. If its faded bad and you wanted it fixed, A new one shouldnt cost too much
Thanks for the info! Mine is either supposed to be gray, or has faded so bad it matches the gray lower trim. A new one is probably the way to go.
Another question, this beater had a bugshield on it till today. Hit it with the garden hose and it flew off the truck. Found a bunch of filth, and places where it rubbed the paint right off.
Turns out one of the tabs for the grill has cracked and wasn't squeezing the damn thing tight anymore. I never liked those things anyway, and pulled the little headlight ones off long ago.
Can I use an epoxy of some kind to glue the tab back on? Only one is broken and the grill is in good shape yet, but has a gap from the bugshield that I can't get rid of without the tab being fixed. Thanks again!
The shield is a goner. Never liked the old ones, and not a fan of the new ones. I'm gonna try the epoxy route first, and if it doesn't hold I'm sure we can figure something out. Wouldn't be the first time I drove a grill-less truck .
I used Krylon Fusion in gloss black. I just masked everything off, wiped it down with some paint thinner to clean it, and sprayed about 8 light coats on to it. I did the bumper cap, the grey plastic under the bumper, the foglight surrounds, honeycomb grille, the door handles, tailgate handle, tailgate plastic trim, rear bumper caps, and tail light housings. They all came out great. The rear bumper hasn't scratched even after walking on it many times. It matched all the faded ugly plastic to my black truck. Masking everything off is the toughest part of the job. It took me about 10 hours to do all the masking and painting but I was taking my time.
