Someone posted on there about mating the new ford tranny with a cummins. i just read in an article in Petersons 4wheel that ford plans on scrapping its current trannies, including the new 5 speed by 2008 and having belt driven ones instead, kinda interesting.
That is a very expensive news letter ($700.00 a year) Does anyone know the specific problems the new 6.0 is having? That forum was a little vague about what the problem actually is. I read about faulty injectors and ill-prepared service mechanics but whats the problem...
There is a member on the board who is a tranny engineer at the Ford plant. He says Ford plans on going with the continuously variable trannsmission (belt drive) in the smaller cars, maybe explorers, and such. He said they're not made for the torque of the larger vehicles and engine.
If you want to see some of his posts, his name is GBEvans, and posts under the 7.3 Performance and Aftermarket forum.
Regarding the problems with the 6.0, go to the 6.0 forum on that site. Remember, people usually come there when they have a problem, so it seems like every truck with the 6.0 is crap, which is NOT the case. Just a heads up...
From what I have seen, the bigest issues with the 6.o are some programming problems, injector failure, turbo issues, and block casting porosity. There have been some head problems, but they arent widespread.
I will bet money that Ford will not use Cummins, nor will they terminate contract with Navistar. I also do nto believe they are one bit upset with them for anything. First year diesels have issues. Always have, always will, regardless of manufacturer. Without the PSD, Fords sales would not be nearly as impressive. They have a Cummins eater on their hands, if they can get it tamed.
