Fears and phobias
Who's got what?
Not intended to be a joke thread. I'm talking about things that actually get you nervous, sweating or downright scared.

For me:
I'm not afraid of heights, but I HATE ladders. I can climb up on top of our 80 ft tall silos at work, or be in a 90 ft. boom manlift with no problem at all, but put me on an extension ladder? No thanks. Folding ladders aren't really a problem, just extension ladders. I'm always afraid the bottom will kick out, or the locks will break and the ladder will just slide down on itself.

The other is pulling a loaded trailer. A few years ago, I had to pull a small box trailer full of ice. Someone else had hooked it up and we were in a hurry, so I didn't check it. Got a few miles down the road and it came unhitched, flipped and hit another vehicle (noone was hurt). Ever since then, it's a 15 minute process for me just checking to make sure it's hitched TIGHT and won't come off under any circumstance. Still, I'm constantly staring in the mirrors watching it with sweaty palms the whole time. And unless I have to, I try not to get on the freeway/highway with a loaded trailer with fear of losing the load or the trailer.

RE: Fears and phobias
Im afraid of ladders aswell but not heights. My deal is that I feel its going to start sliding sideways while I climb closer to the top but once im on the roof or where ever im headed, im good to go. The trip up though, im shaking.

RE: Fears and phobias
HATE heights....but strapped in a bucket truck and I'm fine.

I also hate towing without trailer brakes. Too many times I've been cut off and put into a dangerous scenario because of some other idiot. If the brakes work, I'm fine with a 53' trailer.

Hate snakes too......

RE: Fears and phobias
public speaking infront of people i dont know scares the crap out of me, along with standing on a ladder or a high place and looking up, if i look anywhere else im fine its just when im looking up that i feel like im about to fall. and the sad part is I drive fork lifts for a living and get lifted up about 50ft.

RE: Fears and phobias
I'm going to sound crazy, but here it goes:
-Industrial fans; large fans like whole house fans and parking garage exhaust fans.
-Vines; thick forest vines that measure more than an inch in diameter that wrap around everything/scale up tall trees.
-Maybe two more normal ones; Heights and death. Nothing else bothers me other than commercial air planes which fall under heights.

RE: Fears and phobias
Ive got to the point where if im alone i always have a gun by my side. More paranoid if anything i guess. Unless my dog is with me. which leads me to the fear of losing my dog; literally the only thing that i cherish. The other night i was working on my truck at about 2am. My dog usually stays close to me, but has the tendency to wonder. I heard a horn, screech of tires, thump, and a dog whelp. My heart literally left my chest, luckily Kaiser, my dog, was sleeping no more than 5 ft away. i was still shaking for the next 30 min.

RE: Fears and phobias
Speaking in front of large crowds.

Heights... really bad with heights (over 15' or so).

Snakes/spiders. If I notice them before they spook me I am good to go, but if them kaka's sneak up on me its all over.

The dentist and surgery. Its not so bad that I don't go to them, but I am always "thinking" and worrying about it until its over.
