Fabricated lift block
Has anyone here fabricated their own lift block for the rear of their truck? I need a 6" block and am just going to fab a set. What is the pin diameter and protrusion from the block on the factory blocks? And the pin IS centered on the block correct ? Thanks for any help and if you've fanned a set post up your pics!

RE: Fabricated lift block
that's a BIG lift block Surprised

Make sure you have a torque bar setup on the rear as the leverage from such a large block will quickly wear out your springs and blow u-joints if not more. It would be better to fabricate a taller axle perch and utilize a longer footprint to limit axle wrap. Or even better would be a shackle, should get about the same lift. Check out DIY4X

RE: Fabricated lift block
Talked to DIY4x and they don't recommend a shackle flip for towing. And yes I am going to fab up some nice traction bars as well. Factory block is 4.75" tall so it's not that much taller.

True....didn't think about that. If you're only looking to get an extra 1" or so, why not just add a zero rate block? Much easier and would be a little better I would think Thumbs Up!

RE: Fabricated lift block
Well I've never really been a fan of stacked lift blocks, and when I fab these I am going to put tabs on the sides for the u-bolts to go through and pads for the bump stops. I want to fab them before I take the old blocks out so it can be a simple swap instead of taking the measurements off the oem blocks and then fabbing them. I'm probably going to switch to inverted round u-bolts as well when putting the new blocks in.

Those are the zero rate blocks I was talking about. You remove your center pin from the leaves, place that block on the bottom and install a new longer center pin. Just as safe as a AAL, but doesn't change your spring rate. I think this is your best bet!!! Thumbs Up!

RE: Fabricated lift block
I would think it would be fine as long as you fully box them, use at least 3/8" material and your welds are good. If you do all the above it would be way stronger than any junk china cast iron block you will buy.

RE: Fabricated lift block
Yeah I ordered 6" x 6" x .375" square tubing to use and am going to box the sides with .5" plate and tie the sides together. I just really want to know the dang pin info so I can fab them up and have them ready. The TGC fabbed blocks I believe are all .25" plate construction...
